I like it

It's basically a f-ck you to gen z and how they are not interesting in 90s-00s artists because they are "old" :ladyhaha:

ugh

THIS.

like these tiktok b*tches y'all most likely will never be able to create a song that's even more interesting than this very one you come so hard for. Billie Eilish is gifted and an exception but the rest are either vulgar or just dull. Gwen is an icon and remains unbothered and selling without compromising her a** off, in the literal sense.

“Fantastic, chic, freak, slay.”

She’s released several songs like this before like What You Waiting For about recording her first solo album, Yummy about making more music, and now this I guess.

I haven't read the thread but y'all have to understand that you cannot bully a celebrity on a fan forum.

I don't think you refrain from calling a movie shitty. Yet there's a whole team behind it. Guess what? That's how show business works.

When you put your work out there to make a profit, the public has the right to have a say, and the celebrity won't hear you if you're crude.

I don't know what you get from policing everything, but Gwen Stefani CERTAINLY does not care.

“It’s just how show business works” is no longer a valid excuse for being mean. What you say may not affect the people who’ve released the material but it certainly affects the rest of us, especially those who like it. Just stop being mean? Why is it so hard?

Your entire argument is based on the notion that this is about being “mean”, which it isn’t. It’s about being critical of someone’s work. It’s about having a (negative) opinion about someone’s work. Which is perfectly fine to have and perfectly fine to express.

If negative opinions about someone else’s work affect you that much, you may consider working on yourself because that’s how a society with free speech works.

To answer your question, which meant “Just stop expressing negative opinions/being critical? Why is it so hard?”... it’s not hard. It’s just not in anyone’s interest to censor ourselves.

Okay, almost two (?) weeks later, I appreciate this song even more. It's inspired me to revisit No Doubt's and Gwen's oeuvres (I was a fan back in the earlier No Doubt days, but wasn't as into her solo career), and not only does the song evoke No Doubt Gwen, but even some of the cringier lyrics are also callbacks to her earlier songs. People already have caught the "bananas" reference from "Hollaback Girl," but it's only today that I realized that my least favorite lyric, "It's free with a coupon," is an allusion to No Doubt's "Underneath It All" (You've used up all your coupons / And all you got left is me). These callbacks are very clever; she's not reinventing herself, she's reminding people of her earlier career, taking bits from previous songs and reassembling them into something new in collage-like fashion.

Is it my favorite of her songs? Nope, but it's fun to listen to, and I'm grateful that it reminded me of her amazing songs, which I think was kind of the intent behind it. I look forward to her non-country comeback.

Also, she's one of the most genuine musicians out there. I just love her!

Your whole argument is based on criticism. Once again, insulting someone is NOT criticism.

”It’s just not in anyone’s interest to censor ourselves” - says the racists, homophobes & trump supporters when told their language is unacceptable. Let me guess, I’m impeding on your “free speech?”

Also, I don’t have an issue with anyone having a negative opinion, it’s when that negative opinion is made at the expense of other people for a laugh. Seriously dude just get over yourself. You act as though anyone wants to hear your opinion negative or not. I can tell you now, no one is dying to hear your sh*tty opinion.:haroon:

Agreed. At first I was like “meh” but now I LOVE it. It’s so tongue-in-cheek like much of Gwen’s songs in her solo career.

The coupon lyric is so awkward at first but it’s just as weird as when I heard “the **** is bananas” for the first time.. but it’s so iconic in its own way.

If you can listen closely, even the ad-libs in the background of the song are very Gwen.
