Killa 17,112
An already dying and struggling form wont survive. Cinema is one most recent forms of art. The cinema theather was the place to project the film back then, but now too many people have good screens and hi fi system at home. The grossing of cinemas that i keep up have been these big action and bockbuster movies. Plus dvds... Are even more than cose to extinction. If concert halls (acoustic music) are and theathers are in grave danger...these seem not only in risk of bankrupt but extinction.
Jill 29,812
For anyone saying that this means blockbuster movies are dead, Netflix still makes them and they always have a very limited theater release just for award qualification, so they won't lol. Karl 3,325
See the films that have gone into streaming this year like Mulan and stuff like that have been £19.99 in the UK to watch. You can go the cinema for like £7 here, so why would you pay so much to watch it at home when it's cheaper to get the full experience in the cinema. Don't think it'll kill the industry. The fact that 4 or so movies made 1 billion dollars, while one other broke records with $2 billions in USA alone in 2019 doesn't seem like cinemas were facing troubles to me. Also this year, Tenet is still making $350++ millions, making it 3rd biggest grossing movie this year. While the local movie, Demon Slayer, made $ 265 Millions in 45 days in Japan, in the middle of pandemic, helping that movie capsizing Titanic as 2nd biggest grossing movie ever in Japan, and on track to take the 1st position from Spirited Away, and making it 6th biggest grossing movie overall in 2020,also doesn't seem like cinema is facing troubles. Cos let's be real, these movies would gross even bigger without lockdown in place. And then we have Mainland China, who steadily becoming main competition to US movies industry and market, got bilion dollars market in it, and why lots of Hollywood are pandering to them lately. Movies industry are alright, matter of fact it was getting bigger before pandemic caused it to take a halt. I said cinemas, not the movie industry, there's a big difference. Movie theaters were closing left and right even before the pandemic, movie attendance in cinemas keeps dipping year after year, there's just less and less incentive for people to leave their homes and fork out 30$+ for a ticket, popcorn and soda... Now imagine an entire family. Streaming is much easier and more cost efficient for most families. This isn't my personal opinion i'm saying what i've read chaeri pls
