Everyone saying she's not honest and that u find her unauthentic... Literally watch any of her interviews, especially her most recent ones, she's literally the most genuine pop girl right now.

I also don't feel connected with who I was 5 years ago, so why should her?

How about she thinks about what she’s about to release and makes sure is genuine instead of throwing stuff out there just for money grabs :cyanlights:

I think it's hard to be an artist/musician so young when you don't really know yourself and, because of that, much of your work is continually trying to figure that out as a corporate face (as pop singers often become). Miley Younger Now and Plastic Hearts seem different from what came before. It's positive she's found her voice.

I’ve said it before on here, I think it’s a pretty common thing for people. Have you never cringed at yourself seeing old pictures of you, or reading old texts you wrote? I feel like it’s part of human nature to react that way as you grow older and your tastes and sensibilities evolve.

To echo what she’s saying, I think it gets better when you finally accept the fact that you keep changing, and as an artist especially you have to be able to tell yourself: « This was one specific moment in time, this is exactly who I was then, it doesn’t have to be relevant to who I am now. »

At least she's self aware of it rather than dismissing her past work for no reason. I'm sure all artists have up and down feelings about their past and present work. We know Gaga does. But hopefully they do appreciate that's where they were at that point in life and not to laugh or write it off, especially when it means a lot to their fans.

Exactly. It’s also important to understand we, as fans, get the finished product without any insight regarding the difficulties encountered along the way, so artists might have a different feeling about things. Like that time Gaga said something along the lines of the Telephone video being her least favorite because it was basically hell to make, and fans were shocked to hear her say that about arguably one of her most iconic and beloved videos.

So while artists should accept their past works mark specific moments in time, fans also shouldn’t hold it against them for feeling a certain way. We evolve and our perceptions are different, it’s all good. All feelings are valid.

This is totally normal for an artist. Especially in their 20’s/early 30’s - this time is usually a big time for personal evolution. I’m sure Gaga will feel more proud of ASIB and on since she will probably know herself better than her younger self and start to accept her artistic vision from previous albums.

All of this also applies to Miley too

It’s also different as labels/fans/etc openly criticize their work. Unlike people who love the albums who love every piece of it - artists probably wish they could go back and change certain songs or know about songs they wish were on the album but their label needed something else on the album.
