Supersonic 49,376 Posted December 1, 2020 Share Posted December 1, 2020 A car has ploughed through a pedestrian area in the western city of Trier at lunchtime, killing four people including a baby, police say. The driver, a 51-year-old local man, has been arrested. The circumstances of the incident are still not clear. Witnesses said people screamed in panic and some were thrown in the air by an SUV travelling at high speed. The city's mayor described the scene as "horrible" and said up to 15 people had been injured, some of them seriously. The incident happened at around 13:45 local time (12:45 GMT) in Trier's Fleischstrasse pedestrianised street, near the city's famous Roman gate, the Porta Nigra. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-55148518 Currently there's a live press conference, the police has said that several injured people are in very critical condition and the death toll number could increase significantly. Some news outlets report even 30 injured people, with eye witnesses saying the driver specifically chased down people to run them over in the pedestrian zone. He also drove his car into the display windows of several shops on the course of 1km, wreaking as much havoc as he possibly could until he was stopped by the police. When I said that I was not talking about Germany as a country. Germany has been pretty welcoming to muslims all over the world. I was talking about mainstream media (not necessarily in Germany).
