Bill Gates confident almost all Covid-19 vaccines will work well

Billionaire Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates believes "almost all" the Covid-19 vaccines will work and work well, he said in an interview with CNN's Fareed Zakaria.

Already, vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna have shown to be effective in early company data, and Gates said he expects vaccines from AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson and Novavax to have similar success soon.

"I'm optimistic that by February, it's very likely they'll all prove very efficacious and safe," he said.

The billionaire Microsoft founder spoke with CNN on Friday, a day before more than 177,000 people tested positive for the virus and about 1,400 people died, according to Johns Hopkins University. 

The US has seen a huge surge in cases over the past few weeks, and Gates said he expects the number of daily infections to continue increasing. He said more than 2,000 people could die daily for a lot of the winter.

"We're still climbing up (in cases) and that climb is expected to continue literally through February. And that's where you get likely over 2,000 deaths per day during this winter period," he said.

I’m just hoping I’m vaccinated before my Chromatica Ball date in August... this vaccine is cutting is close. I’m not a high risk candidate thankfully, but this is the one small area where its kinda like... oof. They shouldn’t delay the shows again bc vaccines could debut in January... that’s like 8 months to get a lot people immune. Most people will probably get,  it definitely not 0. Just offer refunds to those who cant make it

He did a TED talk back in 2015 how the world is not ready for the next epidemic and that obviously resurfaced earlier this year, giving him a lot of exposure. His foundation focused on it a bit for the next few years.

He gets a lot of hate (at least used to) but for what it's worth he's a man that believes in science and spent a lot of money and energy on a few of the world's most pressing issues.

The gates foundation has done so much global vaccine work among other things. It’s literally his main focus and has been for the better part of the decade.
