Jesus Christ no. What we're not going to do is create idiotic strawmen like that. That is some Bush administration-ass Republican nonsense like when they claimed interspecies marriage would come after gay marriage.

Movies are not to be mistaken for reality, period, but unfortunately they are because they help shape our culture. In cases like these, it's more than just acting, it's exposing a much wider audience to marginalized people, an example of which most of them have maybe not encountered. Unfortunately more often than not, when it falls into inexperienced hands, be it the writers, directors, actors, etc., the accuracy and honesty gets lost in exchange for romanticizing or villainizing for the sake of the narrative, going Hollywood if you will.

ALSO jobs in films, including acting, are still jobs so when countless production positions and roles are going to the same pool of heteronormative, white, neurotypical people, that's a TON of jobs that could've gone to people with way more insight who are already being marginalized for the issues the film is portraying to begin with.

i don’t quite agree with your analogy, but i agree with the overall point. sia has every right to cast whoever she wants to play whatever illness. just as everyone here has a right to not watch it because they don’t like the casting.
