I was on Twitter and turns out it’s not just me who thinks Giselle looks like an average teen girl plucked out to join the group :ladyhaha:

Girl u could have just replied to me :selena: I mean at this point in time Kpop is really like a factory where the groups are literally products made for mass consumption. If you’re gonna want widespread popularity and appeal then u got to have the best products.
it’s just my opinion that the foreign members look so uninteresting compared to other foreign members in girl groups. :madge:

Yes, Kpop is a manufactured industry, but they are still people and not products. If anything, groups like BTS just show that you don't need stereotypical visuals to be successful. And yes, you are entitled to your opinion. I just don't see the reasoning to criticize them on how they look. Or why it matters that a member is an "average teen." Plenty of late 3rd gen and 4th gen groups have many members with pre-debut photos that look "average." I just I think skills/talent/and personality are more important. And overall,  just seems too early to judge any the members.

Fam, relax. It's K-Pop. It's South Korea. Plastic beauty is standards there and not a taboo the way you trying to take it with your preaching here.

Also, as BlackJack to another, let me tell you what led to their demise is that YG is done with them, between Park Bom drug scandal, having BIGBANG going to do their military duty, and preparing BLACKPINK to debut, YG decided they got their hands full then got Minzy left cos they  don't want to give her a solo. The rest is history.

I know PS is not a taboo in Korea, and I'm not against the use of PS. People can do to their bodies what they want. But that's not the point. I don't understand why there is a need to call any of the members generic looking. Or why that even matters. There are plenty of successful groups that are not all "visuals."

Also yes, I understand those are contributing factors to their disbandment, but still always disgusts me how YG referred to BP as the "pretty 2NE1."

Because they are idols, fam. Like I said before.

Also, understand they are marketed as K-Pop idols. IDOLS. Understand what that word means in Korean and Japanese pop business; a type of entertainer manufactured and marketed for image, attractiveness, and personality in Korean and Japanese pop culture.

Visuals and image matters, as much as selling you delusion that you can actually date one of them when they are really not. Which is why idols members cannot date or cannot be seen dating, otherwise they will face severe repercussions, and why idols stans are often extreme and possesive.

When I use the term "Visuals" I mean that not every members needs the visual role. Ex: Kai from Exo, Tzuyu from Twice, Irene from RV, Minho from SHINee, Hyunjin from Stray Kids. Not every member needs to be a visual to be popular or to be successful. Baekhyun isn't the visual of EXO, but he is still huge in China. The same applies to Momo, Sana, or Mina for Japan. And as I said before, BTS is a great example of a extremely successful group that is not all "visuals." I'm not even a fan of BTS, but you cannot doubt that they are pushing the boundary on "stereotypical visuals" in the idol industry. There are many factors that determine the success and popularity of an idol or a group. At the end of the day, I just think It is unfair to judge a member only by how they look.

Well tbh it’s really how we kpop consumers have been fed and how the industry is. It’s ethically wrong to be so shallow but it’s the way the kpop industry works so much so that if I deem that you’re literally a product for the masses then I’m gonna treat u as such. Like Ramrod said as well the members also know what they’re getting themselves into by wanting to be KPOP stars which means more restrictions on what they can/cannot do and they chose to be products who are judged for their looks.

So if their label spends so much time perfecting their looks, I definitely have the ability as a consumer to criticise their looks as well. :yennefer:

it's not uncommon to lip sync to pre-recorded vocals for polished "music show" performances like these, but different music show programs also have different levels of backing track:live track requirements so sometimes you may hear live vocals peeking through. There are typically live vocals on tours / large audience / intimate live shows though

I'm not a huge fan of these very post-produced 'live' performances.

I don't have a problem with things not being live, but if you're going to edit it so much, not use live vocals, add CGI, why not just make it a fully produced music video? It's not like this allows me to be impressed by their live vocals or ability to dance and sing, and the CGI/production quality is not as good as a full music video. So this is just an awkward in-between.

That said, they are unbelievably gorgeous and the choreo is great. I want to hear Ningning's live vocals, it seems like she has a great voice but hard to be sure when it's not live.

1)  If I called some women ugly and products, some feminists will come at me and call me misogynist.

2)  Professional  p.r.onstars and professional stripers who chose to work in those industry professions have to allow the public to criticize them as Products?   Quite sure they'll be offended, and they want to be treated as humans.

3)  Kpop companies never want all the members to be visuals (or looks), only 2 members are called visuals, 2 members can be average looking and supposed to be vocalists,  2 members can also be average looking and supposed to be rappers and dancers.

You think all members supposed to be good looking, that's just you.  That's not how the industry or the Kpop companies are selling the group idols.  Some groups only have 1 member as the Visual.

Sometimes they do, but the vocals aren't good because they get tired from the dancing.

All the songs have music videos already.  This video is just extra content, after they practice for the live stage dance shows (or music shows).

This video was made with Augmented reality (AR), it's an interactive of a real-world experience.   It seems like a lot of work and a lot of editing, but the stage for this video is empty.

This video is just a practice dance, they prep to prepare for the music stage performances.
