According to an unidentified insider, SM Entertainment's rookie girl group aespa will be adding new members in the near future.

According to this insider, SM Entertainment plans on adding 3 more members, making a 7-member group.

The insider claimed back on October 29:

"This song is similar to K/DA's 'Popstar' but a little heavier, and in the beginning it starts with the electric guitar before they shout 'Hey' and then Karina starts off in the center of the formation. However many times I listen to the song, it's just a plain, generic hip-girl song. Part 1. Karina, 2. Ningning, 3. Winter, 4 Aeri. The debut is only 4 members and Winter and Ningning have the most parts. The dance during the highlight part is similar to Girls' Generation's 'Girls bring the' part..."

Many netizens are now surprised to find that many of claims made in the post above came true.

Of the initials of the alleged new members mentioned, many netizens recognized the one with "Initial H, Initial R/L" as belonging to an already well-known SM trainee, Helen (born 2003, Australian-American).

I hope they don't.

With small groups like BlackPink, it's easy to get to know each member and appreciate each of them. With big groups I don't even know their names, nevermind who they are or whose voice I'm listening to.

All 4 of these members seem promising, I'd rather just get to know them without adding a bunch of others.

I mean the only thing missing is a main dancer

They probably will add more to cover more bases in terms of what the consumer is into. That’s why a lot of k-pop groups have a lot of members. The larger the group the more chance they have of appealing to a broader audience.

I know, but I was hoping after seeing BP's ridiculous levels of success, other labels would be keen to imitate them.

It definitely seemed like aespa were going to be SM's version of BP (and I'm here for that), but I guess not.

I guess it's a western thing, we like the illusion of 'getting to know' pop stars (which could explain part of why BP have become so successful outside of Asia). But maybe SM aren't aiming for aespa to become so international.

LOL  well, that's the end of hope for me to ever root for them then.

I hate girl and boy groups that got more than 5 members. It's too crowded and unnecessary.

And why out of all SM artists, I  can only get into f(x) and S.E.S

(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ dancin' until i'm dead (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡

They probably aren’t BP BTS and Loona are the only groups that seem to really try to appeal to western markets at all. I prefer larger groups because I just enjoy diversity but I can definitely see how that gets difficult. I have some groups I love with like 12 members and it was a PROCESS trying to get to know them all.

7 members would be great. When i saw the MV with 4 members idk it seems incomplete. Also its been a while for SM to have a girlgroup with more than 5 members

I mean, one of SM’s most successful groups, Girls’ Generation, consisted of 9 members after all.
