Why do critics love disco?

I've noticed that disco albums made in the modern age always seem to get great critical reception regardless of who releases them or where they place on the charts. Think of albums that have been full-on disco or heavily disco-inspired in the last few years and how they served with critics. Think of Scissor Sisters debut album (81 on Metacritic), Daft Punk's Random Access Memories (87 on Metacritic) , Pharrell Williams' Girl (67 on Metacritic), Mark Ronson's Late Night Feelings (75 on Metacritic), Jessie Ware's What's Your Pleasure? (84 on Metacritic) and the recent Disco by Kylie (73 on Metacritic). Then there's also individual singles that are heavily disco influenced that also gained critical acclaim - Get Lucky, Blurred Lines, Treasure, Sugar, Can't Stop The Feeling, Say So, Don't Start Now, Say Something.

But I question why it is because...I've never liked disco. Just my opinion but I just don't get the appeal. I've always found it devoid of any great beats, or passionate vocals or riveting subject matter. I just hear blandness. Most ironically of all, disco rarely makes me feel like dancing. This stuff is supposed to fill dancefloors and yet when I hear it, I really don't feel like dancing to it, it doesn't inspire anything in me. So, what do critics see in it? Were they this generous to it back in the 70's? Has disco surpassed its reputation as a fad and become a classic genre in the eyes of critics? I'd really like some light to be shone on this because I don't get where the love's coming from.

MuglerHooker

well really, it's just a matter of opinion

personally, i love it - it can be chill but it can be energetic

i don't care much for the new "disco-influenced" stuff but the actual 70s/early 80s stuff is great

listen to some of these songs and tell me what you think

Spoiler

Todays electronic music, club music, and even big portion of pop comes from disco. Its the root of most of dance music. Just because it doesnt inspire you it doesnt mean anything, disco is also quite complex in composition so saying the beat is devoid is interesting to hear as most of the chord progressions, rhythm, the syncopations, harmonies are quite outstanding and the amount of work that was put into writing disco is crazy. Disco is also quite meaningful in its context and its history is quite important so it might be something that you did not really go into to fully appreciate it in its full existence. :)
