The European Commission unveiled proposals to defend the rights of people who identify themselves as “lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, or questioning.”

The LGBTIQ measures are part of the first-ever equality strategy from the European Union’s executive arm, laying out targeted actions for the coming five years, including a push for all EU nations to follow.

“Everyone should feel free to be who they are -- without fear or persecution,” Vera Jourova, EU vice-president for values and transparency, said in a statement on Thursday. This is what Europe is about and this is what we stand for.”

The EU’s plan promises targeted actions, such as legal protection against discrimination at work and hate crime and help cross-border recognition of rainbow families.

Russia's not part of the EU but Poland is. At the moment some regions or towns/cities in Poland have stopped receiving EU money because they declared themselves LGBTQ+ free zones.

The EU is probably the last hope I have as a gay person living in Poland. It's such a tragedy, you cannot even imagine. It really is starting to become a Handmaid's Tale year by year. Everything is going backwards and the thing is that around 50% of society doesn't agree with this, but we have fvcked up politicians that own almost everything in country.

Sugar, spice, and everything nice.

I'm sorry that you and other members of the LGBTQI+ community along with women (because of the new abortion regulation) have to go through! But no matter how the current situation may seem dark or hopeless, you have our full support from the rest of the EU, other European countries and the rest of the world. Keep on fighting and keep on being brave. Change is going to happen!

its ironic, seeing it's past with concentration camps, you'd think they would learn to be more inclusive. mankind never learns :awkney:

Good news, Hopefully they can crack down on the rampant homophobia spreading in Poland, Hungary and other parts in the west.

I hope this laws aren't just for show, unlike some other country that is full of anti-homophobia laws but it's also the country that kills LGBTQ+ people the most :bear:

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.
