JRCF29 8,219 Posted November 15, 2020 Share Posted November 15, 2020 Tonight is the night: Lady Gaga could finally win another People's Choice Award after an 8 year drought (her most recent nomination prior to 2020 was for 2019 Tour of the Year for Enigma.) She is nominated in 7 categories, including three major fields: Female Artist of 2020, Album of 2020 and Song of 2020. But she faces stiff competition across the board, up against names like Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Cardi B, and BTS. My prediction is that she will come away with 0 awards, extending her streak of nominations without a win at the E! staple. Let's take a look at the categories. Female Artist of the Year: Taylor Swift is the most nominated artist in the history of this award, and she's nominated again tonight. She hasn't won since 2016, but after the release of folklore, which spawned a country radio hit with 'betty' and chart-topper 'cardigan', and has moved over 1 million units in the U.S in just a few months, she seems poised to grab her fourth trophy in this category. Also competing for this crown is Billie Eillish, whose fanbase is notoriously active online and vocal on social media, meaning that she is in a strong position to upset TS, and Ariana Grande, who continues to do serious damage on the Spotify and Billboard charts. Gaga is simply fighting a very uphill battle here. Album of the Year: This category also pits Mother Monster against Swift, but with the added bonus of reigning VMA Video of The Year artist The Weeknd and BTS (we all know that BTS stan Twitter shows tf up for fan-vote awards. Again, it's too much for Gaga to overcome. Song of the Year: Until WAP took Tik Tok by storm over the summer, I would have said this category was on lock for Gaga and Ari. 'Rain on Me' went to No. 1 and was a radio hit for a (very) brief while. It also won big at the MTV VMAs and is expected to pick up several nods at the Grammy Awards. But WAP broke Billboard records, is all over hip-hop radio, and Megan and Cardi have kept a much higher profile throughout its promotional run than Gags. It's a safe bet that WAP wins the night in this race. Music Video of the Year: Competing against BTS is enough to make pursuit of this trophy a lost cause. Collaboration of the Year: See: Song of the Year. Social Celebrity: Almost every other nominee in this category (except for maybe LeBron James) is a bigger social celebrity than Gaga. So.... Style Star: Lil Nas X's signature cowboy getup has set fashion Twitter alight, I guess Timothee Chalamet was in some fashion-forward movie, and Rihanna's lingerie company has its own damn catwalks shows. Gaga's saving grace in this category may be the diverse lineup she brought to the VMAs, including insect masks, glitter bodysuits, and and a peacock-inspired leotard (complete with feathery frill!) LGMonster95 13,704 Posted November 15, 2020 Share Posted November 15, 2020 Honestly, I don't really care that much about those fan voting awards, if she wins I'm like "yay she won" if she doesn't then I'm like "Whatever", idk but for me those fan voting awards doesn't feel important, I actually feel like getting nominated is more of an achievement because they'll have to nominate the artists.
