Ticketmaster To Verify Your Covid-19 Vaccine Status Before Issuing Tickets

Monday's news that pharmaceutical company Pfizer's early results on a new COVID-19 vaccine showed a 90% efficacy rate on an initial clinical trial have given concert professionals hope that the business can start mounting a return in 2021. As part of that preparation, Ticketmaster has been working on a framework for post-pandemic fan safety that uses smart phones to verify fans' vaccination status or whether they've tested negative for the coronavirus within a 24 to 72 hour window.

As an experimental vaccine for COVID-19 continues to make progress, the concert industry is preparing for a potential return to live events in the coming months.

Ticketmaster is working on a plan to use smart phones to verify whether customers have been vaccinated or tested for coronavirus, according to Billboard.

While the plan is still in its early phases, Billboard reports the process would involve fans using the Ticketmaster app in partnership with medical information firms and vaccine and testing distributors.

Upon buying a ticket, fans would be required to either verify their vaccination status or prove they have tested negative for coronavirus within 72 hours prior to the concert dates. Regional health authorities would determine the length of coverage for any test.

After being tested, customers would authorize a lab to share their results with a health pass company such as IBM or CLEAR, according to the report. If one of the requirements was met, the health pass company would verify that information with Ticketmaster, which would then release the tickets to the customer.

Any fan who tested positive or failed to verify vaccination status would be denied access to the event.

Anti-vaxx can never able to watch concert anymore then. We love that for us. :billie:

I hope more places doing this too. Like movie theaters and theme parks.

I’m assuming they are rushing because they want their money and don’t actually care about anything else. :bear:

Its great news, don't get me wrong. We are really close to having one, 90% effective is still good. But we don't know if its safe, or how long it makes you immune for, or any of these things. Plus, there's then the finalising and mass production of the vaccine as well as storage, and then vaccinating everyone. Its all going to take time, and I think a lot of people are jumping too far ahead. I'll be very surprised of there is a vaccine ready by summer next year. Usually it takes 2 or 3 years to come up with a vaccine

Um...even with a 24 hour period...I could get tested and show negative and then go to a party and catch covid within 24 hour period...this is so stupid and they look impatient to push concerts nobody feels safe attending and what artists are still trying to tour?

They can’t wait because the entire industry has been slowly crumbling.

I’m sensing some unexpected disaster tho.

The thing is too, the vaccine is going to begin by going to people in the medical field and front line workers. Then probably high risk patients. And so on. How long into the administration of the vaccine before the average person is able to receive it? They’ve said it requires 2 vaccines within a certain amount of time. That’s a lot is vaccines to vaccinate a whole population, and from what I’ve heard it’s going to take some time to produce enough vaccines. I’m pretty sure concert goers aren’t high on their list. I’m curious to see how this works.
