She chose the 2007 awards for her first broadcast performance in three years, a period that included a hasty Vegas wedding, a reality show, several stints in rehab, and near-constant tabloid scandal. MTV was intensely hyping the performance. If it went well, the thinking went, it would be a career game-changer. It didn’t. Spears appeared lackluster and even confused when miming her latest hit, “Gimme More,” and the criticism was swift and brutal. The media pile-on had become common for Spears in 2007 nonstop headlines all asking, essentially, “What’s wrong with her?” And it could never happen today. She didn't botch the performance as much as she was going through the motions of being a pop star on everyone elses terms but her own. The outfit definitely I think played into it. Britney I at her core just is not the type that does well on stage with so much skin showing. She always seems more comfortable when she can be dressed sexy without it being a focus purely on being exposed and bare for all to see on the stage. Something like this in Black and shorter so its a bit more bodysuit like for movement would have been a better fit for the performance. The bikini look was just so not her... It was all pressure from her record label and manager at the time. Also I think there was an issue with her outfit, and that wasn't what she was suppose to wear but something happened iirc. Britney was nowhere near ready to be on stage yet, as flawless as the choreography may have been and as much hype as she had going for her. shame on her team and label for doing that to her, they really did set her up for failure. this performance only made her breakdown seem to get worse. she’s healed a long way since this performance, at least one can hope. poor Britney Cake like Malibu Gaga Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Britney did not want to perform. 4. One of her high heels actually broke early in the performance. 5.
