I believe what happened was that they read a story online saying that no openly gay man had won an Oscar, but they either misread it or didn’t read the full article. They said during the speech “if this is the case, even if it isn’t the case, I want to dedicate this to the LGBT community all around the world.” It was all said with good intentions, it was just a very unfortunate situation .
