RAMROD 117,327 Posted November 7, 2020 Share Posted November 7, 2020 Virgin Galactic Holdings Inc. will resume ticket sales next year following the first flight carrying founder Richard Branson to space, a milestone intended to signal the beginning of the company’s tourism trips. The billionaire’s journey is likely to occur late in the first quarter of 2021, Chief Executive Officer Michael Colglazier said Thursday after Virgin Galactic reported earnings. The company already has a roster of 600 ticket holders who have paid as much as $250,000 each. It suspended sales after a 2014 crash killed a test pilot. Branson’s voyage had been planned for this year but was postponed because of work delays tied to the coronavirus pandemic. Covid-19 “has led to accumulated impacts to both schedule and cost efficiency” that will continue into next year, Virgin Galactic said. “Building spaceships during a pandemic is materially less efficient than normal,” Colglazier said on a conference call with analysts. The company is planning the next test flight to space of its VSS Unity craft within a four-day window starting Nov. 19. That will mark the vehicle’s first trip to space from Virgin Galactic’s Spaceport America launch site in New Mexico after earlier flights that began in California. A second spaceship, which is under construction in California, will debut in the first quarter of 2021. Many things when they are brand new and revolutionary are very expensive and unattainable for average people and it takes wealthy to start adopting it then in time once it grows and becomes mass produced becomes way way cheaper I wouldn't be surprised if over time more companies grew to start doing this and supply chains for equipment and fuel to make this possible grew and ticket prices drop A LOT It may never be a cheap thing per say but in 30 to 50 years it may be a cheap enough thing that average to above average income earners could do as like a once in a life time experience you save up for Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Even tho income inequality should not be as high as it is and I'm not defending having the pie broken so unevenly... This is not one particular aspect we should be complaining about. If the rich weren't enjoying these new things we still wouldn't be regardless It takes a lot of money to start revolutionary new industries (air travel, pleasure cruises, lazer surgeries for example) to which this is no exeption and the rich start it Think of it like they are investing in a new industry indirectly they are just enjoying themselves while doing it If we banned the rich from their air travel or pleasure cruises back in the day the industry never would of took off and the middle class would never enjoy it either decades later Again income disparity being as high as it is is a big problem but also a whole different discussion. But In terms of them purchasing expensive new toys, that's not an aspect we should be complaining about. At least when they spend it's going back to economy and developing this new industry.
