ARTPOP has the most leaks next to TF and pre-TF why has 0 leaked from it at all. :smh: Gaga says things all the time and then herself contradicts them. I don’t think it’s as finished as people think. But that’s just my opinion based on what played out during the era and things she said.

No.. she was off the heels of a major backlash era with ARTPOP for being too crazy, boring “Gaga” and attention seeking to many people. Joanne coming after C2C was the perfect response to that. She shed the Gaga imagine we all thought she was stuck with and showed a totally different side. She didn’t need to outrageous stunts and artsy outfits. She didn’t need the edm driven dark born this way style music. She just sang next to real instruments. Without that, she wouldn’t have done the super bowl, ASIB, and wouldn’t be hailed as a tricon. Everything happens for a reason.

I completely agree and this thread really brings out the hypocrisy in this fanbase.

I’ve witnessed the entire Joanne era and everyone was hating on Joanne and wanting the OG LG5 and wanting DarkGa and now that we have Chromatica and Gaga straight-up said Joanne failed her expectations and drove her into a depression suddenly everyone’s defending it.

Bradley saw that performance before the Joanne era started. Also, the Joanne era was never intended as a rebranding.

Wait, Chromatica drove her into depression? So this era is ARTPOP Act II?

Joanne drove her into a depression. I’ll fix that.

This is incorrect. Bradley has stated multiple times it was hearing her sing La Vie En Rose at the Sean Parker fundraiser (April 2016 I believe) that convinced him to ask her to be in ASIB.

At the very beginning of 5F2 she confirms she'll be in the movie - before she'd even written Million Reasons, A-Yo and most of Joanne I assume.

Eh, I love dark pop and it would have been a serve, but this was such a necessary album for her career and for her as a person/artist. Obviously this set her up for ASIB which was a career repeak and helped her to soften her image post-ARTPOP, but this album has some of her outright best writing. While it isn't a perfect album, I think it forced her to focus in her songwriting and lyricism. I honestly think Joanne is by far one of her most consistent albums. Also, seeing how important it was to her, I personally don't care if something would have been "better" or sold more. She should be allowed to release passion projects regardless of their commercial viability.

Joanne was always intended to be a rebranding.

After the backlash from ARTPOP, with everyone sick of her OTT antics and artifice, she decided to go the safe route and do the massively predictable "this is the real me" 'stripped back, singer-songwriter' era that every pop star does after a backlash.

The era was just a way to fulfil her contract/satisfy fans for a while without creating any controversy before ASIB.

Claiming Joanne was for her father is something new she's on about. In Five Foot Two she is very passionate about it. It's a very personal album made on the heels of her exploration of country music writing and filming A Star Is Born. It's a brilliant album and it's who she was at the time. The idea it has no value because her father sucks is false.

I disagree - she was on the whole "I'm my father's daughter" thing during the whole album promo. And the inclusion of her father in 5F2, visiting her grandma, etc...she was clearly very keen on "fixing" her family's trauma. And the story of Joanne and how it affected her father was very prominent. To the point that she was telling the story of her amputation and gruesome details about the disease.

Imo, Joanne came to be when she was on the brink of becoming "Gaga" again, and realized that instead of making music for the fans (as she was w the original LG5), she could potentially heal her family by tapping into her roots.

...and that's when we threw on our cowboy hats and went back to the barn for Papa Joe :huntyga:
