Dem turnout in midterms are always exponentially lower than in presidential years. 2022 is not likely to be good regardless of who is president. It's why dems have to win big in election years so that the subsequent losses in the midterms don't take all their power.

No negativity on this site thank u

System was established so that common people wouldn’t be allowed to elect a tyrant with popular support - ie. So that electoral college could vote otherwise and overrule...

If only they realize it can do the opposite too, they had a little too much faith in their people's values

There's already work to do just that without a constitutional amendment. States can pass a law that would elect their electoral votes to the winner of the popular vote no matter how their state votes. It doesn't go into effect until more than 270 electoral votes worth of states enact it, but once it's crossed that thresh-hold it will kick in and votes will end up being 1 to 1.

To be honest, I don’t think electoral college system is the biggest issue with your election system.

The way electoral votes are awarded is more problematic.
Take this Wyoming has 3 electoral votes, California has 55.

3/55 is 3 times greater than both:

Registered voters of Wyoming / Same of Cali

Population of Wyoming / Same of Cali

Hence an individual’s vote in smaller states with 3 electoral votes can be about 3 times more valuable than an individual’s vote in a big state.

Aren't like 15 states on board with that already? Mostly Democrat states? I can't see Republican controlled states doing it :rip:

196 EC votes worth of states currently have it enacted, with 60 EC votes worth of states with it pending on their congressional docket. We'd only need a state like Arizona to suddenly flip blue to get the last remaining votes.

@Jill & @PartySick sorry to rain on the parade but as a democratic socialist I'm used to the government doing the opposite of what I would like to see. Call it chronic pessimism. :yennefer:

Same here.

That's exactly what that compact addresses, by giving every person 1 vote, popular vote wins the presidency.

And all of this is what they think when they say US is the leader of the free world and that it declares war on other countries to make them more democratic. BS

That bullshit only cuts to people who live inside the US and have to rely on US media. For the rest of the world it's very clear the intentions behind US participating in/starting wars.
