I can’t believe I’m about to go to sleep for the THIRD time during this election “day” and no official winner has been declared yet.

Trump won a larger share of the Republican vote this time around than he did in 2016. Biden brought Republicans to the DNC, he offered to give them a place in his cabinet, we had multiple think tanks and media apparatuses like the Lincoln Project taking millions upon millions from Democratic voters and... Republican voters didn't care. More of them voted for Trump than before. 

This strategy totally, completely failed. It will never work. Everything that you personally advocated for on this site for years failed. No amount of rebranding to attempt to pander to Republicans will EVER work.

Medicare for All, "government run" healthcare is favored by 70+ percent of the population. Increases in the minimum wage, the legalization of drugs, etc. won across the country. Bring out the Democratic base, run on the progressive policies that the voters want across party lines, or fail. That's it.

I've heard that Americans have an international reputation for being friendly or personable. Which is ironic considering who we just had to unelect

You're making an argument with an anomaly. Trump isn't a Republican. He is not fiscally conservative or morally conservative. The values of the Republican party are not what they used to be. With that said, we have to start making those center left Republicans feel comfortable with voting more progressively. I think it's starts with rebranding to be honest. Most polls suggest that Americans want Healthcare reform and eduction reform and they believe in climate change, but they hear the word socialist and fear it. I think we need to start reinventing how we sell healthcare for for all and education for all and enviormental protection as conservative values or just plane necessay and not as Democratic socialism. 

I'm not saying change the progessive ideas, just change the way they are presented. 

We keep saying "words matter." Well they do and we should take our own advise. 

 

Republicans voted 90% for Trump in 2016, and 93% for him in 2020. Trump is the Republican Party, the Republican Party is not what it used to be. Trying to reach out to disaffected Republicans is not going to work, we need to get Independents, first time voters, and people who don't usually vote involved in the electoral process by offering them policies that appeal to them, not going to the empty well of moderate Republicans that has dried up.

A left-wing president managed to be elected, so they're at most a big minority I'd say. It may seem scary rn, because of Latin America's very conservative past, but I think the left will definitely begin to bloom there, after conservatives begin to die or get voted out of office. I sincerely think far-right nuts like Bolsonaro are their last hurrah.

Haha nah but for real even when I was over there I noticed how friendly everyone was. Being Australian also helped I guess being a bit of a novelty 

She said she's going back in November and said how different everything will be and I was like 'yeah and you'll have a new president!'

Politico put out a piece about how Biden and McConnell will be able to work together better than expected.

They've served together for decades, Biden is often liked for "knowing how the congress works" and "being better at negotiations than Obama", and McConnell was one of (or the) only GOP senators at Beau's funeral.

We might not get anything amazing until (🤞) Democrats take the senate in 2022 but it doesn't look like Mitch intends to be a total wall this time.

Assuming the Georgia runoffs don't go our way, that is.

Keep in mind that in Mexico that they’re conservative in different ways than we are here. AMLO is left of Bernie Sanders and is currently the president; they’re quite economically liberal in Mexico. In terms of social values, pretty much everyone has faith and abortion is illegal on the books (but abortion pills are readily available), but they’re more open about expressing their sexuality than people are here in the US.

It’s perfectly OK to start making out with someone in public in Mexico. People are not afraid to openly express their sexuality or tell dirty jokes the way they are in the US—it’s a lot less prudish.

LGBTQ rights lag about 10 years behind the US, but for the last six or seven years, Mexican soap operas have started to have gay couples in their plot lines. It’s like where we were in the first-2000s-decade in the US, when moves like Brokeback Mountain made gay rights mainstream.

@Dulo Peep Thoughts? Am I accurately assessing the situation in Mexico?
