FfFfFfFF 56,108
Today I learned Greek is actually an African ethnicity.  So many of those posts don't really have a clue and mix their idea of modern day Egypt (the way it is presented in stereotypes and pop culture) with the reality. Cleopatra's ancestry can be traced to Macedonia so most likely she looked like the white Greeks that were living there. If she was black, all Greeks, Italians and Spanish people in today's world are also black.

Guest
To me personally as long as the actor fits the role it's fine, but of course if u can have a more diverse cast it's better, especially to fit the race of the character. I just get sick and tired of Twitter writing paragraphs and being so shocked or offended over something like this... The actress who played Jasmine in Aladdin was white and indian, yet no backlash for her. Jasmine is of arabic descent not indian. But she was perfect for the role. Just relax a little. I think Gal Gadot would portray Cleopatra very well just like Elizabeth Taylor did

And north africa is not "arab" it's "maghrebian", difference. You won't call Pakistanis "indians" or Koreans "Chinese". They act all high and mighty and don't even know this. Gal Gadot is fine. Elizabeth Taylor as well. Truth is we don't even know what Cleopatra looked like apart from statutes. Relax!!!!

I personally don't think Gaga would suit the role cus she looks too italian and it's too obvious but people would literally say How dare Gaga, a white italian play the role of a greek historical figure? Well both mediteranean i see no problem with it. In fact if someone of mixed race with blue eyes who happens to be scottish, syrian, sicilian and indian fits the role for the look, why not? Whats the problem with that? Jesus christ. Being outraged of a white man playing Obama, yes. A white woman playing a Korean princess, yes. But this is just ridiculous

I guess you could argue then why not make her darker-skinned? Iâm with you, but I guess if there is uncertainty then as long as she isnât idk Nordic or East Asian or something then itâs fine? She could be dark or lighter. In general this seems like a lot of whatever to be worked up about lol  like sure, get someone that at least looks Greek unlike Liz Taylor lol but I think Galâs a dec pick if weâre talking about the âlookâ

NCgaga 4,324
Wait a second, these people are so dumb. CLEOPATRA WASNT ARABIC. She was literally European. Having an Arabic person play her would be just as innacurate.

Ammmm it literally means that considering the time period... she wasn´t technically completly greek just part greek ...They should have cast a person who looks more arab or greek or you know... Gal Gadot still can pass as white in this society which is a privelege for her! And gaga should never except this role... Cataleya Deters
