The Backlash Against Gal Gadot From Starring As Cleopatra Has Started

i get it a little because modern Egyptians inherited ancient egypt's past and most modern Egyptians are literally mixed with Greeks, Arabs, Persians, various East African peoples etc...so in a sense hiring a modern Egyptian actress would be a good thing because its a part of their history. Being Arab is more so a broad identity that was adopted by many different races (you see tons of people identifying as Arab when they are actually of Kurdish, Phoenician, Greek, Berber, Bantu etc..descent just to name a few). It's like the term Latino in a way. Being latino is not a race. It encompasses many races but it itself is not really one set race.

that said it is what it is. Gal is a pretty lady and though I'm not a fan of her as an actress nor really as a person I have to say the outrage is overblown lol. Let it be. This won't be the first time Hollywood ignored a huge list of talented Arab actresses and only gave them a call to play 1) wife of terrorist or 2) distressed muslim woman who wants to leave Islam and her family. :rip:

Despite the race debate, I don’t picture Gal Gadot playing Cleopatra. She’s... beautiful, but in my mind Cleopatra has a much more uncommon / interesting beauty than her, with stronger facial features, not just your typical Hollywood beauty.

Meh, I doubt they actually care, they just want to be upset. They’ll forget about it in a week.

In the Bible as fast as I remember Ishmael and Isaac are brothers.

They are both sons of Abraham

I understand that hollywood has a habit of white washing historical figures (especially Egyptians) but Cleopatra was white :laughga: her family bloodline is white Macedonian/Greek and they practiced a lot of inbreeding to "keep it in the family". Was she tan? Yes (like most people from that part of Mediterranean), but that doesnt change that she was racially white, even then Gal Gadot is middle eastern, so that argument about 'white washing" in this case is practically moot.

Also, mess @ the Greek and Egyptian people on twitter defending Gal Gadot and getting blocked by the people complaining :sharon:

Wow some liberals are just too much. Do people not have anything better to do than police movies for accuracy? Cleopatra was Greek and thus a white European. If they want accuracy than it should have been a Greek woman playing her, yet that's not what these people are arguing for are they? It makes no sense to have an Arab woman play her when we know that's not where she came from. I'm just so confused with the entire argument. As a Greek myself I don't even care if a Greek woman is playing her or not, but certainly I would not try to falsify history and say she was a POC, cause even though Greeks and Italians weren't and still are not considered as white as other europeans, it certainly does not make us POC. Imagine how ridiculous it would be for my natural blonde hair, blue eyed, fair skin relatives to say they are POC just cause they are Greek.

Aslo, anyone upset because the actress is from israel is just being plain anti-Semitic. Who cares if a jew is playing a woman who ruled over ancient Egypt, a present day muslim country? Mulsims were not even around when she existed so it literally should not make any difference. Imagine the outrage if it was the same reaction towards a muslim actress and how quick the world would be to call out islamophbia, racist etc

This whole thing is not problematic yet people go to such lengths to make it one. Absolutely ridiculous.

Some of us new this would happen to Gaga and were chastised by over zealous Gaga clowns.

This reminds me of when for some reason, a lot of fans wanted her to play Ursula in live action remake of The Little Mermaid. Kind of glad the twitter crowd shut that down tbh, even if I didn't agree with their reasons (Disney live action remakes are almost always bad, original Disney Princess film or bust IMO).

Twitter is full of people who have no idea what they're talking about. Cleopatra was a European Macedonian/Greek woman... She was white. Read a history book please. :awkney: This isn't something that historians don't know. They've always known that she was from the Macedonian dynasty.

They keep saying "Arab roles" yet when Cleopatra ruled Egypt, there were no Arabs or Muslims in Egypt. :toofunny:

people like to get to offended, even when it is groundless
