If you can criticize, satirize, question, or mock a political ideology, I don’t see the difference with religion. Just because you have a deep personal connection with your god doesn’t mean everyone has to respect it. It sets a dangerous precendent and goes against all progress towards freedom of religion. We live in a secular society, no religion is free of ridicule

EDIT: Rihanna did not ridicule a people. She did not mock muslims. She “mocked” their god. (More so repurposed his word)

if she doesn’t believe in him, she shouldn’t be forced to apologize to him.

A political ideology affects many people. Your religion is nobody else's business. It's about having respect for other people and their opinions.

the right to mock/make caricature of it.

Everyone hs the right to mock/make a caricature of any belief. That’s what opens conversations. That’s what leads to progress.

Instead of silencing speech because people are offended we should hve an open conversation on the content that is causing such a rucuss. We should be allowed to pick out the flaws of a religion like ANY ideology and critique them. This generates discource and progress.

Stop putting a religion on a pedestal, you said it yourself, it has flaws. So it is allowed to be critiqued.

EDIT: if something has flaws why not bring it to the light and correct them for the betterment of everyone?

No religion affects people the same as a political ideology. Saying it doesn’t comes from a person who has the privilege of living in a secular society

EDIT: I can respect a belief while still questioning it. We should be allowed to question everything

I didn’t make a comment about her having a conversation or what she has done in the past. I am informing people about what Hadiths are as I am more familiar than most people on this forum and this is the main subject in this thread. I expressed my hope for people to not be afraid to question a certain religion if it makes people more aware of it, like 95% of the people in my country that say their muslim but never read hadiths. This is a touchy subject and I only expressed my hope without wanting this to go off-topic.

thank you for being respectful in your response. i hope you understand that most muslims aren't trying to kill gays and that it is only the extremists whether they be religious/not that promote hate.  if your feelings were ever hurt or you felt disrespected by someone I would stand up for you. similarly, i feel it is wrong to demonize religion as many posters did yesterday over a few statements in a hadith/quran that are often taken outside of context. Much of the quran/hadith spreads peace and spirituality and i hope you can understand why muslims are feeling disrespected. the thing is we can't change what was written 1000's of years ago but we can practice love and acceptance   by both sides fighting and disrespecting each other we will only spread hate and deepen the divide.

This is what it comes down to... sadly, a lot of users on here have been using a a few verses to discredit the feelings of muslims during this time. Unfortunately, with gaga's fanbase many have said the same thing about them discrediting BIPOC opinions and i'm starting to feel that this is true for the most part. They don't understand the struggle it is to live in these countries and being the target of racial/religious attacks when all you're literally doing is breathing. Mocking our religions/cultures and these discussions further promote Islamaphobia...

Also, i'm sorry but if you're not Muslim you have no right to speak on whether this was/wasn't disrespectful.

She may not have picked the track, but her name is on it. This is very mature and responsible. :applause:

Also, keep it cute everyone. We don’t want to close this thread yet again. :cyanlights:

It might be worth pinning a comment atop the thread so user will be respectful to the fact that there are some Muslim users on the site that take their religion seriously. You don’t have to respect someone’s religion but you should respect them. The thread has already turned to people being disrespectful and this comment alone doesn’t suffice.

Would you guys keep this same energy if she did this with Christianity, Judaism, or any non-Abrahamic religion? Because as an Agnostic, I see a lot of GGD users hell-bent on defending Islam but not respecting Judaism and Christianity, even going so far as to ridicule it. I make fun of ALL religions, not selectively discriminate against one or two. You guys only hold contempt for Christianity and Judaism, and it’s so mother****ing irritating.
