joannesrats 26
Yes, lets throw all of our trash onto the only planet that we may have to migrate our entire species to because we didn't know how to treat this one
Kitana 1,824
its actually super simple. you need to build something to transport all that trash to mars. so you would put more and more of our resources onto a different planet. because those things wouldnt come back You will learn respect! paradox 4,568
If Earth had the money to waste on rocket launches and fuel to send trash to Mars, it'd make more sense to send it directly into the Sun

And we could (and maybe should) terraform Mars, but whatever that would cost would always be more than what it would cost to repair Earth. Not even counting the cost of transport. When people think of settling Mars, at least if they're being rational about it, they're looking at it in two ways: 1. expanding the total human domain; 2. ensuring that we don't have "all our eggs in one basket". The latter implies something like the survival of the species in the face of, say, a massive asteroid strike on Earth (much bigger than the one that killed the dinosaurs -- because we could survive that).* What they are NOT thinking of, is a replacement home. Mars is not a replacement for Earth, and probably never can be. * BTW, here's what I'm talking about (warning, this is possibly the most terrifying thing I've ever seen):
