Could’ve Born This Way had more #1s than Teenage Dream

If The Edge of Glory came instead of Judas?

I imagine 6 #1s from the album if you look at the amount of promo. Or do you think The Edge of Glory or any 2nd-6th single would’ve stayed as it is for any reason such as radios and overexposure

I don't think so but based solely on the fact that Katy Perry was at her peak, serving "sexy girl next door" to the GP, while Gaga was already getting a bit overexposed while also serving heavy religious imagery throughout the era, and if it wasn't religious, it was her doing something extra.

The right schedule should have been:

Born This Way

The Edge Of Glory

Bloody Mary

Scheiße

Yoü and I

TEOG will definitely become #1 with Yoü and I a possible third #1 but I think that's it?

Born in Chromatica

No. I think with Gaga and Born This Way, people were much more excited for the album rather than the singles and I think people were waiting to purchase the whole body of work rather than buy the singles, whereas Katy Perry was coming into her peak, and she was more a singles artist, selling a lot more singles than albums during her rise. Born This Way was also when Gaga was becoming a little overexposed and the general public were starting to lose their love for Gaga. I think it would have been very difficult even if Edge of Glory was released as single no.2 to have more no.1 hits. In my opinion, the only songs that could have been no.1 hits from Born This Way were Edge of Glory, or Marry the Night (which under-performed undeservedly :cryga:). I also think comparing both albums, Gaga's album had a lot more non GP themes, where as Teenage Dream was very much pop-charts GP driven. That is my take on the albums.

I think 2 at max

TEOG 2nd #1 with decent chart run and I'm sure if TEOG went #1, her team would get the risky one as 3rd single i.e. Scheisse / Judas.

You and I was only released as a safe choice. Though i think MTN deserves #1 too

Red Velvet

Nah, The Fame Monster would've done that IF she did a dual single release every time she releases.

Bad Romance (lead single) (she's powerful on her own)

Telephone / Monster

Dance in the Dark / Alejandro

So Happy I Could Die / Speechless

I'm like some kind of supernova

I read a few years ago that The Edge Of Glory was only 3000 copies from #1 as the sales from #1 #2 #3 were all extremely close, was it true?

I think You & I after would have its chance to go top 3 but I don't see any other song from BTW going #1 except title track and TEOG

#1s...idk being as the music was very bold and controversial at the time

Katy just made safe digestible bubblegum pop music

Stream my new single, 💜"Heartbeat"💜, on Spotify!

Born This Way - #1

The Edge Of Glory - #1

Scheiße - #3

Marry The Night - #6

4 singles would’ve been perfect, and in that order

Maybe if she didnt present herself with strange horns on her face.

You know half of the audience turned off all attention after that.. The only way to repair her image would been a safe single like edge of glory or you and i and then go hard with the whole controversy.

And fast forward to 2020, those horns have directly inspired Maleficent’s whole look and brands like Balenciaga. She’s just too far ahead of everyone :diane:

I think it was true. TEOG wasn't even an official single yet and it was close to debuting at #1, but debuted at #3 just being a promotional single.

Not 6 #1s but I think if TEOG came right after BTW, it would definitely top the charts and I wouldn’t release Judas at all, I would go from TEOG to You and I.

Judas could stay a fan favorite album cut like Scheisse, I’m totally okay with that even though I love its video so much

nope

it could’ve had maximum 3 with the right strategies, but people got sick of her by mid-late 2011

if the first three singles had been BTW-TEOG-MTN, with MTN getting discounts and heavy promo, then yeah. sure.
