Why can’t we be upset about both? Why do we have to be okay with mocking any? 57 minutes ago, ALGAYDO said: Maybe you would. But not everyone thinks like you. Religion has caused a lot of harm but also a lot of good. I, personally, am atheist. But I don’t think it’s cool to be disrespectful towards someone’s beliefs. I’m not talking about religious nuts that use their religion to persecute others, I’m speaking more broadly. At the end of the day, it’s just rude. Im honestly fine with people criticizing and mocking my religion, but sometimes it could easily turn into racist and islamophobia. For example, many people here have legitimate and interesting criticism of Islam, and I learn alot from talking to them. While some on this thread started making fun of Muslims using stereotypes and saying we are too sensitive.

Hyoha 1,613
What would you have artists do in the future? “Be more sensible about religion”, as in, “don’t make **** like this anymore”? Be as offended as you want, go complain, go on a strike, whatever. Just don’t enforce silencing/censoring who made you mad for twisting and playing with a concept that’s important to you. People are just as free to criticize religion as they are to celebrate it.
Enigma 7,182
It's very funny to me how I'm being depicted as an ignorant hateful islamophobe. Most of you say it's fine to criticize a religion. That's exactly what I'm doing. But apparently because I use strong language it's hate? Most people on this site despise bigoted Christians, and a lot of us had bad experiences with Christianity because we're LGBTQ+. Consdering there are multiple things in the Bible that insinuate homosexuality isn't ok, it's in our right to have strong feelings about this religion, because it has strong feelings about our mere existence. And that's without mentioning the ENORMOUS amount of atrocities in the Bible that are not even about gays. Slavery is literally condoned by the Bible. At some point, we gotta call out these beliefs. Now take what I said and make it about Islam. Yes, you're free to be a Christian. Yes, you're free to be a Muslim. Yes, I'll fight for your right to do so if it's questioned. Yes, I'll fight for your right to wear religious signs if your faith asks you to. But I will not act like I don't think your religion, at its core, is disgusting. And I have the right to do so because your religion thinks I'm disgusting too. You may twist it however you want, and say "gays aren't thrown off buildings, they're just stoned to death" and call us ignorant because we missed that nuance... But at the end of the day, both religious books are filled with intolerance and unethical practices. I'll defend your right to turn a blind eye to that. But I also have the right to call out those beliefs for existing. We are not hating on muslims or christians. We are hating on Islam and Christianity. And it's our right to do so. Religions are not backed by science and have no rational reason to have any protection. I stand for your right to believe in your religion and to respect what it stands for, but what is not ok is for you to ask me to follow your religion. Your prayers may be holy in your religion, but I'm not muslim. So they're not holy to me. The same way Gaga made the Judas video, because she probably doesn't care about those biblical stories being bastardized. And it's her freedom to do so, because religion is an imaginary construct. Gagaloo911 12,959
Religion is trash and was the cause for most of the wars that occurred in history as well as so many useless deaths and outright genocide. It's more than justified to critique it, and that goes for all religion. Idc what anyone has to say, religion is not pure and it's not exempt from criticism in anyway. And none of you religious zealots or defenders in here will get to take away that right nor freedom of expression or speech. Period.
Hyoha 1,613
We should all be proud that we live in a time where being gay doesn’t get you killed (that much), and where criticizing ancient culture-dictating belief systems doesn’t get us killed either (that much). If we were having this kind of discussion a few centuries ago, who would be safe afterwards? Who would be snitched to the (religious) authorities? Who would be risking their lives to defend their freedom of speech?

Also why the hell are you mentioning a singer? If you are hating on president of UAE then you can, but don't hate on religion. If you are hating on Beyonce for whatever reason that is okay, but don't hate on black people. Hating on person is not hating on everything that person is. THAT BEING SAID - I DON'T HATE BEYONCE OR ANYONE. Saying **** Islam is islamophobic and if you are all about that than you are islamophobic. Same goes for race, sexuality, etc. Openly hating on whatever is hate speech. Take care! Have I hated on you personnally? You can look, you won't find any instance. I didn't. Did I hate the fact of being a muslim? Never. Did you hate on me personnally? Nope. Did you hate on me being gay? Neither. Now... Did I hate on your religion itself? Yes. Did your religion hate on me for being gay? Yes, as stated in the Quran. Whether being called a sinner is hate or not to you, it's still intolerant and I have all rights to fight back. So I believe this discussion was respectful and had nothing to do with either of us as persons, but at this point if you still feel offended or target that's your issue. Warning 432
I can't at hypocrisy here, people literally are getting killed for being other sexual orientation than straight, or having different beliefs than islam in other regions and yet people find offensive that some drag queens danced to some song, I just can not believe how blind some of you are here commenting, look how gay people or other religion beliefs or just a lifestyle itself having people literally get killed by thrown from the roof or stonned in the streets just because of some stupid book or beliefs told them that they are superior to others and that other shall not live and be killed for one true religion which is islam, show me in which country nowadays, catholics or protestants or others kill people like islam believers do, and do not play you victim islamophobia card, because you are simply hypocrite and ignorant and getting offended just literally about anything except for the real stuff which literally kills people. We said the Islamic religion was used to do so. Whether you believe they're interpreting the Quran wrong or not, what matters here is that the Quran says gay is sin. Both Islam and Christianity are responsible for a lot of hate toward LGBT individuals. You may say "but they don't ask anyone to kill them!!!"... the point is they paint gay as bad. We have the right to paint the religion as bad too. Also believe in what you want but objectively, everything about religion is just as much "fake news"... so don't try with that argument
