Brecht 7
Girl this thread is a mess and a half I didn’t even know what a Handith was so I can’t even say anything about it. I will say that I don’t believe in religion. To the people saying that “we should be able to criticize religion in art”: girl of course we should. But she is not criticizing anything and this isn’t art, it’s a lingerie commercial.

If it isn’t, then the presence of the hadith is just an accident and Rihanna has absolutely no responsibility/fault on the matter. Also, just because something has commercial value, doesn’t mean it isn’t art. That was a performance by drag artists, by the way, and yes, it is art. Would you say Gaga’s MR and JW performances on Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show were less art and more commercial? Can we draw a rough line like that? Guest
I found the original audio of the remix. I speak Arabic and the hadith used talks about killing! WTF?! she also used this audio in her last fashion show. And here is how its remixed:
CautiousLurker 19,479
So is the Hadith anti-lgbt or isn't it? Cuz some people on here say it's just being misappropriated, but... I mean, I only went as far as the wikipedia page, but... looks pretty damn anti-lgbt to me It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke! Enigma 7,182
As much as we should respect people’s choice to be religious... Nothing makes religion itself worthy of respect. Sexy nun costumes are a thing since forever, and we openly mock Christianity, because at the end of the day it’s another shitty homophobic cult. Islam is just as bad and has no reason being under some kind of protection.

Most Hadiths are horrible and violent which is why terrorists use it instead of the Quran. But Hadiths is a complicated issue because people have different standard to what is considered a real hadith. Hadiths are collected hundred of years after Islam by random people, which is why there is different opinions on what is considered a valid hadith. Some believe all hadiths are wrong and not part of the religion. Some believe in all hadiths aslong as it does not contradict the Quran. Some say even if the hadith contradicts the Quran, its valid because it came after the Quranic verse.

KingRedd 3,139
No offense but like I’ve seen people already say, Artists use Christian stories, Bible verses, and other references like scriptures. What’s the difference? Why are we saying yikes to this but not yikes to Judas, God Is A Woman video, etc. I’m confused as to why this is totally bad like many of you are saying. May I Read You? 😎

THIS. i'm not even going to write up a reply cus i already know how twisted and ignorant half of the people on this site are but this is extremely disrespectful. You don't mock peoples religion/culture regardless of whether there's problematic aspects of it. Literally ever religion/culture has problematic aspects and just think of what this world would be if we all started making fun of each other and appropriating cultures so freely - and not acknowledging each others feelings if people feel hurt. These are the same people that will drag the Kardashians for doing something like this but will pull out everything from the book to defend Rihanna's despicable behavior. And I say this as someone who always respected Rihanna... BUT THIS IS NOT IT.
Regina George 59,387
Watch all the SJWs that usually come to save the people who are minorities completely ignore this one. The amount of LMAO reactions on the OP are beyond. Islamophobia is the issue that is being ignored on here.

Even for a non believer and anti-religion/ pro spirituality person like me... I honestly think this is insensitive, more than groundbreaking and positively outrageous. exactly this. I appreciate perspectives like this. It's okay to not believe religion but also respect other ppl's beliefs at the same time. It's not even about her disrespecting Islam, it's the fact that she's mocking/appropriating something that is quite meaningful to millions of people. And when people pit it as oh she can do whatever and its artistic freedom, you're literally saying that the feelings of those people don't matter over some capitalist lingerie brand. As a muslim, I don't believe some hadiths/verses either - as with all religions/cultures - people pick and choose what is most meaningful to them. However, as a non-muslim dancing around and making a joke of a hadith is disgusting.

This kind of mind set shows incredible privilege. If the roles were reversed and laws on blshepmy where that be islam, christianity, hinduism, etc. were put into effect by the government, this discourse wouldn’t exist and neither would this heretical forum.
