RAMROD 109,946
Cineworld is shuttering all 543 of its Regal Cinema venues in the U.S. and all cinemas across the U.K. and Ireland this coming week, just a day after James Bond film “No Time to Die” was pushed to April 2021. Variety understands from sources that the chain will close all sites in both countries as early as this week, with staff notified ahead of Monday. Regal is the second largest domestic chain in the U.S., while Cineworld is the U.K.’s biggest cinema operator. In the U.K., Cineworld, which declined to comment, is understood to be writing to Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden this weekend to explain that the exhibition sector is “unviable” due to studios delaying tentpoles as a result of anxious audiences steering clear of cinemas amid the global pandemic. The Cineworld closures will put up to 5,500 jobs at risk in the U.K. Sources indicate a reopening date hasn’t yet been set, but cinemas could stay closed until 2021. Morphine Prince 106,461
I know this is going to sound kind of ridiculous in the overall big picture but I loved going to the movies. I literally always checked how much money each movie made, etc. This pandemic has taken that away from me. I miss going to experience a film on the big screen. This made me sad because I feel like cinemas might never recover and the future is quite uncertain.

Werk 13,166
I literally have a free ticket for Regal and I refused to use it because I wanted to wait for the right movie or Gaga's Gucci film. Welp it looks like it will go to waste now
Franch Toast 26,986
Just so y'all know, these are only temporary closings until things get back to normal. It really sucks though for people losing their jobs and whose livelihoods are impacted. She/Her/Hers
AsleepOnTheCeiling 6,429
While it's sad to see such a staple of recreational experience close down during the pandemic, I hope they use this time to think about how to come up with a business model that works better with the streaming era. Knife 6,897
It sucks to see businesses take these losses, but it really is for the best until things are under control.
Puddin 1,209
Omg there’s one literally less than a mile away from me and they have the best hot cheeto pop corn ever I’d hate to see it close down forever
Lord Temptation 11,209
I haven’t seen a film since Call Me By Your Name in 2017, and before that it was The Dark Knight Rises in 2012, and before that Avatar in 2009. In fact I have never seen ANY Marvel/DC film, never seen ANY Spiderman film, never seen ANY Twilight film, never seen ANY Hunger Games film and many others. I feel that I represent the general public pretty well. We are over Hollyweird. The streaming era has destroyed the magic of cinema. I feel sorry for the ones who still go to the movies for nostalgic reasons, because I do remember what it was like as a kid. But the reality is that films are not made to last anymore. Movies, like fast fashion and fast food, are made for instant gratification and then disposability. Please don’t shoot the messenger. Watch an old school Hollywood classic instead- there is almost a century’s worth of great cinema ready to be discovered.

I am really worried about the independent theaters I used to frequent because a lot of them were already struggling financially. I used to go every week and half of the time there would only be like five other people there besides me. Edited just now by anonanon

Doot 2
I don't understand why any were open in the first place since the pandemic started. In general, it makes me sad because going to the movies was one of my favorite things to do. I'd go just about every week, or every other. It's truly a magical experience (obviously it can be crap too but I digress). However the fact we have no idea when the pandemic will end, they need to just get over it and start releasing these films on VOD for the price of a movie ticket.
