It looks a little too cutesy. The great thing about the original was how creepy it was.

Also, it looks like there will be nowhere near as many witches as the original - I counted just 50 chairs in that conference room, the original had chairs that went up and down the length of the room! And I knew something bugged me but couldn't work out what it was, now I see: the original book line was changed from: "it doesn't matter who you are and what you are as long as somebody loves you" to "it doesn't matter who you are and what you look like, as long as somebody loves you." Unusual change (maybe invoking the human element which "what you are" doesn't imply) but it doesn't ring as true and I thought Octavia sounded like she was just reading off a script when she said it. I just get the feeling this is going to be very much a line-reading kinda movie that people are in just for a cheque. Again, filmmakers believe putting Oscar winners in a film is going to make it huge. We've seen many times, audiences see through that.

I did notice that but if she can't show her true self in front of her fellow witches, where would she show it? There is that very brief moment where she's looking at herself in a handheld mirror and thunder flashes in the background and there seems to be flashes of what appears to be a different face underneath and there's another scene where her teeth appear to be a bit pointed and rotten, but again, see above. Maybe it'll be a "she transforms into ugly when she's mad" so it'll only happen near the finale or something? Predictable update technique, in my opinion.

Hhmm, true. :noparty:

Surprisingly, I'm not convinced by Anne's delivery here. It's like she took some inspiration from Cate Blanchett's performance in Cinderella, but it feels more caricature-y.

Agree with everything, unfortunately yes. On a side note, though: I think the marks/lines/scars on the sides of the mouth that all the witches have might implicate they are all wearing human face masks? I guess they didn't want to already spoil that in the trailers? Or does this suggest their mouthes can be opened up way bigger than humans can? I do suspect there might be a similar reveal scene too, they just didn't spoil it? I could be totally wrong though. But it was also in the book, so I guess at least the Grand High Witch might reveal her true form (I hope).

I hope so the witches is not complete whithout the grand high witch reveal scene

I don't think she's wearing a mask. The fact that you can see a rotted/decomposing type face in her reflection when the lightning strikes could mean she's got a "glamour" on. We can also see bits and pieces changing about her, her hands, her teeth, and if they're showing that in the trailer we can presume there's a bigger reveal.

I don't think people should count Anne Hathaway out. She got similar criticism for being cast as Catwoman and I think she did great with that role and it fit the tone Christopher Nolan was going for. No one could ever fill Anjelica Huston's shoes so why bother comparing this to that? I'm looking forward to this particular take on it.

All of you nostalgic weirds saying the CGI is awful. The effects in the first film were awful, even for their time.

please...high horses

either way, no one's replacing Angelina.

That 1990 version caused me so much anxiety as a child lol

It was truly terrifying. Angica Houston was extreme nightmare fuel as the grand high witch. the witches GIF
