The difference is that Boris never claimed the virus to be a hoax or tried to make light of it though he did buff the scientists advices and not being forthright with information, which is why cases are as high as they are. He was taking precautions, wearing masks etc. He wasn’t well liked but he also wasn’t hated like Trump is. America itself I feel is quite different than the UK in the sense that people from the UK tend to be very empathetic no matter the person their being empathetic to. They love to coddle and be coddled. America is in a state of divide at the moment and I don’t think Trump’s positive Covid test will change the way people there view him/politics in any way. This is the man who’s referred to the virus as a hoax, called it the “Chinese Virus”, admitted to downplaying it on tape and is seen as responsible for over 200,000 deaths. That along with the racial tension, tax fraud, presidential debate, and yesterday’s Milano tapes doesn’t make for a very empathetic response to this news. His supporters however may grow stronger. Boris did not grow in popularity afterwards, he just continued to make error after error and public support for him is at an all-time low as he puts restrictions across England that is really getting everyone's backs up (Scotland deals with its own affairs but we're not much better off either) and even his own party doesn't have faith in him as it's clear he doesn't know what he's doing. So, no , I don't think the US will have a renweed sense of patriotism either. People have made their minds up about Trump one way or another regardless of his health and there's no changing them. Speaking as someone from the UK, I don't really know if this is accurate...And for what it's worth, we've felt like a very divided nation too ever since the Scottish independence drive and the Brexit vote and that's added on to everything else that's going on right now. I feel the US and UK are two sides of the same coin at the moment. Only difference is, the UK has a buffoon in charge and the US has a borderline psychopath in charge.
