Also, are you in NZ/Aotearoa? I know some people there, and seeing the (positive, successful) effects of a strict initial lockdown, and several smaller lockdowns thereafter, makes me very jealous! 3 points in and ready for more

We locked down here in the US (sorta, barely tbh) and still have over 200,000 dead what the f*ck.... Source for your 6% quote? Cause it's BS and the CDC themselves have the mortality rate at LESS THAN ONE PERCENT. It's actually a fraction of a percent. Also, 50-75000 people already die annually from the standard flu and 200,000 people is much less than even half a percent of the american population, so I'm truly confused to your "+6%" number, unless you mean the mortality rate went up "6%" recently, that actual number only being a fraction of a fraction of the actual mortality percentage but reported as "a +6% leap!". When you combine standard flu + cancer deaths, the flu and cancer are far more of a risk than coronavirus, which would mutate and lessen its symptoms if we all had herd immunity. Take all that into consideration and you start to see that herd mentality and only quarantining the elderly makes A LOT OF SENSE. Full lockdowns for everyone has only led to the destruction of small businesses and a sharp rise in suicides. You think you're "doing good and saving others", but you're just participating in the destruction of the economy for all but the mega-rich. Notice how they all got millions in bailouts and we americans only got a one-time stimulus check of $1200? Musk is not wrong. But none of ya'll wanna talk actual facts P.S. - In 2020, an estimated 606,520 people will die of cancer in the United States. Why have we not banned cigarettes? Why have not we not done all we can to lower pollution? Why do we not limit pesticide use and chemicals in our food? Because they direct what they want you to fear, plain and simple. I'm not saying that lockdowns are or aren't the answer, as I believe a number of measures need to be enacted and followed in order to successfully combat the virus, and lockdowns alone enough are not enough. However, we need to take this virus seriously. You do realize that life will always be the ultimate roulette? Covid is not the only illness threatening your life, but it isn’t by far the deadliest. And illness is not the only way to die. So might as well lock yourself up for the rest of your life? We have no proof lockdowns actually have a big effect. And we have no idea, how many people actually have already had it, the real number is far beyond the tested and confirmed cases.

Where? it's the opposite. The cost of lockdowns will be long term. From hunger to cancer to mental health, lockdowns have effects that people dont want to see for the moment. The effectiveness of lockdowns doesnt exist. 90%of the world had them, but they "worked" only in places like New Zealand and Australia and they continue to "work" 6 months later by keeping their people locked up in their houses. In opposition, places like Japan, Taiwan, Sweden didnt need a lockdown to keep covid under control. 2 14 hours ago, TEANUS said: THIS THIS THIS. Much of the US was in a pretty considerable lockdown from mid March to mid May, at least 6-8 weeks, and we’re still fighting this thing. It was “flatten the curve flatten the curve flatten the curve”, well...cases were down and then reopenings happen, we have little to no herd immunity, so bam, the cases skyrocket again. The fact of the matter is that the death rate (at least in the US) has proved to be much lower than originally thought. With more testing and more things being open than in the spring, we’re reporting nearly double as many cases per day as we were in the Spring, but the deaths are the opposite, about half as many per day in comparison to the Spring. IMHO, the lockdowns weren’t worth it, it’s a virus, it’s going to spread and people are going to die, it’s called nature. It’s extremely saddening and unfortunate and God allowing we hopefully will never see anything with a mortality rate as high as they originally thought. But, the cost the lockdowns had/ will continue to have on mental illness, the economy, OUR IMMUNE SYSTEMS, child development, drug abuse/ alcoholism rates, and so much more, will always outweigh the benefits in my eyes. But, I’m not a scientist I just read the charts 3 14 hours ago, Faysalaaa said: Why does my country only have 800 covid cases a day, yet we are fully open like there is no covid? maybe the numbers released in my country is a lie? 4 13 hours ago, Not The Real Gaga said: I kinda agree with him.
