Not only was Britney always pressued for being too provagitive by the media but the industry she was in pressured a young woman to be a virgin sex pot. She had to have a clean image while still being sexy to guys and as a teenager and a woman growing up in her 20s that must’ve been really rough for her to juggle to try to please everyone.

I remember early in her career Britney banned older men from visiting her backstage as fans! Alot of creepy older men started buying meet & greet tickets by themselves and acting weird.

Sickening and heartbreaking. And look at where she is now. They all share some fault.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

Thing is, Britney wasn't even the most sexualised popstar ever. It was only truly shocking when she was 16 and wearing a schoolgirl outfit. But other than that, nothing she did was that shocking, especially by today's standards. Madonna, Xtina, Miley and yes, Gaga, have all been much more sexual than her and yet their line of questioning and accusation when it came to the little girls that looked up to them wasn't this intense, if I remember rightly. My mum let me listen to Britney growing up and she used to be kinda disapproving of me liking the Spice Girls, yet she didn't seem that bothered by Britney, so she can't have been that bad. Media love to sensationalise. But seriously, I remember the obsession with her virginity, it was creepy back then, even creepier now. That reporter asking her if there had been any change on that front is bang out of order. Considering it came to light that Britney's first time was actually at 14, the pressure on her to valiantly lie in these situations must have been so awkward.

When you say that Britney didn't have any impact, sorry, part of teaching that women can wear whatever they want, can express their sexuality, Britney was part of this (along with others) but Britney had to deal with a lot of sh-t because she was younger.

Imagine a 30+ years old men and women asking a 17 years old girls if she's virgin in front of many people?

I just want to know who are they and shame them for all to see.

There was such a creepy disgusting obsession about her virginity. Then Justin Timberlake when they broke said on the radio that he "hit that" and that she lied she's not a "virgin" then everyone started shaming Britney. "But Britney u said u were a virgin so are u a virgin or not?", then in 1999 if im not mistaken they said she had breast implants, could be true who cares, but the media was so obsessive about it, they'd ask her "Britney how could your breast grow so fast like that?", a ****ing teenager...

They were terrible to her. I remember it very clearly back in the day and she was treated badly by the media since day 1. She was always a sweet girl and they weren't happy until they ruined her life and took everything away from her. Now that she's in a conservatorship the media mostly wants to keep her there. They have always had it out for her and it's horrible.

People are routinely jealous of people (especially women and poc) who want to own and express their sexuality. They both expect it of them and lambast them for it. There’s really nothing more to call it other than bald-faced misogyny and bigotry. Nothing they do can let them “win” because they and we aren’t supposed to.

I think you have to look at a few things, though, that explain Britney’s unique position in pop culture.

Madonna had broken barriers as a *woman* so even though she was absolutely torn apart by the media as well, it was different and her being more sexual was in its own way different to Britney. Britney also had the girl next door look and released bubblegum pop about heartbreak and boy troubles and being strong when you’re sad. Her songs early on very much played up the dichotomy of the innocent virgin girl and the wh*re. She was marketed to be sweet but a little sour and her template has been used times over.

Miley got away with it specifically because of Britney having already desensitized the media to it, by and large. Gaga was never for kids, Xtina was not super kid-friendly either (more than Gaga but not incredibly).

Britney made the template of sweet country girl gone bad that Miley followed in years later. Slave 4 U, the nude body suits, the red latex. Britney becoming more sexual directly flew in the face of virgin culture in the US as was the intention of the marketing. To shock people, but no one cared that Britney, a young girl/woman, had to be the one to put Up with all the scrutiny and abuse because she was surrounded by monsters
