Well, anthropologycaly, there's no such thing. Culture belongs to no one, and at the same time it doesn't exist in groups, culture is personal. So I don't even think cultural appropriation is a thing.

So, answering your question, no.

And here goes everyone being offended by people being offended. This isn't an "SJW" thing. I'm genuinely just curious for those who's cultures are shown and what they might think of this both negative and positive.

Cultural appropriation is Jesus being depicted as blond and blue eyed by Europeans, while he was probably olive skinned and related to Armenians in the first place. This is not cultural appropriation, whoever thinks so needs to stop worrying what others think.

No. It makes a big difference that the director is Indian. Like, if a group of 100% white people had made this video, then maybe there would be a conversation to be had. But a major collaborator on the project can't appropriate his own culture.

please, we have to really understand the true definition of cultural appropriation. keeping up with this state of mind that everything that is not coming from the artist's own cultural roots is cultural appropriation honestly means we're going to let ART die because of what truly is oversensitivity and fake 'wokeness' rooted in ignorance.

the crossing of cultures for the sake of art is beautiful, inevitable (due to globalization) and NOT cultural appropriation.

It is not often that I say this, in fact, I never ever have, but some threads should just be shut down immediately. I understand the incredible importance to have open talk, but please can we stop desperately trying make and construct issues out of every single piece of media. No disrespect to the OP, but I find even the intention of a thread like this to be inflammatory.

Lady Gaga has stood in the forefront for representation across all genders, cultures, races, sexualities for over a decade now.

Artistic expression is global, it is human, It is worldwide. End of story.

No. They included the poster of the film they are referencing in the video.

They even depicted Middle Eastern and African American people as paramedics.

Did y’all even read the OP? They clearly stated they don’t believe it is and just wanted to hear everyone else’s opinions. Don’t attack them for asking a question that’s very appropriate for today’s social climate

And the majority of the visuals are Armenian. One Indian director can't speak for a whole group of people. I don't know his full background and as an artist - he definitely should be able to express his interests and his story and impact of The Color of Pomegranates. Just trying to think on a more global scale which might not fully be my place but it's interesting to see what people think and how they personally relate to art.
