flyaway 15,350
At the end of the day, it's true. Even in Gaga's case, awards are meaningless. She deserves them all the way, but what really matters is the passion and the artistic growth throughout the years. That's what's important.

That's they're job. Art costs money and Hollywood is a business. People will hustle, con, negotiate, backstab, beg, steal and borrow to get to a place where someone with power can hear their pitch and maybe invest coin. If you have a bankable name/face, they invest more. They invest in more production, ads, screenings, theaters slots etc. I believe Bradley and Gaga both took pay cuts/back end deals to help the budget too. In exchange, you the name/face, have to essentially agree to wh*re yourself out to be and do whatever the production company needs, to recoup that coin (coin that will fund future movies btw). ASIB promo was 6 months of worldwide travel, smiling and photo old and answering the exact same damn questions for hours a day. Then shaking hands and kissing butts of petty and egotistical industry people. People whose whispers carry such weight and influence, that they can get you, your art, and the blood, sweat and tears of the 100s of people who labored on it --and would also be raised up by its awards season success -- boxed out at the biggest trophy show in your industry. And that's what happend! He spent time with his baby instead of flying out to a Q&A and some voters were very pressed about it. It's a tedious game that Bradley does not have a good poker face for. And I think that's why he said he felt like he didn't do his job when he wasn't nominated for best director. Not being acknowledged as the captain of this beautiful ship you put so much work into, must hurt. But when films like Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody are presented as the best of the year in cinena, then yes, you can't help but see how essentially meaningless awards are.
