Then how do you define hate speech? what makes something hate speech ? where does it start and where does it end?

And who gets to decide and define hate speech? a committee of people? what kind of people decide? and how can one ensure that people who decide and define hate speech, don't define it in a way so they profit from it (which in our political landscape is definitely possible)

the problem with the term hatespeech is that it's a pretty new term and only loosely defined. with no precise accuracy.

some people call fair critique hate speech (because offended) while others have a more hands-on approach to call it hate speech when someone uses dirty words and language or incite violence

Anything that spreads hate against another's race, sexuality, religion, nationality, gender, sex, disability, appearance (etc) for their own ideals, or to try assert power/privilege over someone, is hate speech. Human morals should be enough to determine what is and what isn't hate speech. Failing that, there's always education. Its that simple.

No it's not that simple.

What is hate? define hate?

I have witnessed more than enough people who call something hate, that isn't hate to others. Why should we use your definition of hate to define hate speech instead of other's people's definition?

I do not need to define hate. If you're seriously asking me to define hate, then there's no hope for you

You pessimists need to read articles before you start ranting :smh:

Defunding this kind of training is GOOD. Why should race play a part in how police officers, government workers, etc. are trained?? Isn’t that the kind of thinking that everyone, including myself, is fighting AGAINST?!

Lmao, if you have no answer then just be so honest and say so, instead of trying to make it a personal attack (which I could define as hate towards me, but whatever)

Of course I do have a sense what hate is, as everybody does. But some people define critique as hate, while others don't...just as one example.

You can say it's so simple, but if you can't even define hate speech accurately and in detail, it has no place in laws and such.

Whispering

The purpose of these programs is simply to promote equality for all Americans through education. Anyone who says they are a platform for 'critical race theory' or 'anti-white properganda' is deliberately misunderstanding in order to create a smokescreen behind which to hide racist attitudes. Only bigots fear equality.

Sister, you have been fooled by the fascists at the white house.

I have personally taken these trainings just a few years ago when I was a federal employee.

There is LITERALLY nothing controversial about them. I was bored out of my goddamn mind. It was very standard HR training (anti sexual harassment, anti bias trainings).

The reason they exist is because it is VERY illegal to "discriminate" against anyone while you are a federal employee. These trainings literally happen to keep people educated about federal anti-discrimination law.

You're making this way more complicated than it needs to be.

Do you know how serious the law takes discrimination by federal employees? Because it's a legit federal crime to discriminate against someone in federal hiring, promoting, and public service. They take is SO SO seriously.

These trainings are about compliance with federal regulation. There is LITERALLY nothing scandalous about them they are so mundane. I promise you there wasn't even a hint of "white-bashing" (that would be illegal too!).

If you can't see this for what it is — the Trump admin throwing red meat to his base who WANT to be able to freely discriminate — then I don't know if we can help you.

Because that kind of training is racist and brainwashing.

No race is inherently racist.

Idk what the conversation is (I don't have time to read the posts rn) but I have to figure the racial sensitivity training isn't a class that sits down every white person and whips them until they admit they're racist :rip:

We live in a society where non-white people are unfairly treated. Those classes (hopefully) only teach those with authority and/or responsibility about that and how they can help to not perpetuate that kind of injustice while they carry out their duty.

In other words, it would help a cop not escalate a situation with a black suspect any further than they would with a white one or it'd help a manager to fairly consider a hispanic applicant for a job or whatever.

That's just my assumption anyway. The fact that Trump calls it racist and divisive against white people tells me that it's infact not that :huntyga:

And for the record, I do believe that you can be racist towards white people. Not systematically but holding a personal prejudice against someone because of their race is racism imo. No one quote me 'cause that's no longer a hill I'm willing to die on :huntyga:

The fact is that teaching white people how to treat racial minorities with fairness is NOT racist against white people :deadbanana:

.Parts of the memo were carefully worded

Yep, so carefully worded that some low IQ people, like certain members in this thread, swallowed it as a good thing.

Like Negan from TWD once said "I shoved my **** down your throat, and you thanked me for it"

No ❤️ Those trainings never address systemic racism and only inaccurately label it as interpersonal problems. Its not gonna work if the society isn’t fixed first. It’s just an excuse to look good PR wise and scold employees.

Interesting, I was just going off of what I was taught at work but you’re right. It looks like a good way to tackle this issue is to have underprivileged individuals teach these subjects themselves such as hiring black teachers, women teachers etc. Admittedly this has nothing to do with corporate America. Although there are definitely ways that racial diversity training can be revamped to make it effective. Though I think that getting rid of it altogether sends a bad messsage.

Hi CoolTrainerTerry, thank you for your comment! Yes I have, and it’s been awful to watch :( That’s why I think defunding the current way of training against racial bias and looking at alternatives is probably a necessary move. Have a good day!
