Are you for real?

People are mad because he's actively joking about skirting his social responsibility as a celebrity with fans of color. NOT because he stayed silent (which, IMO, is cringey regardless).

uhhh, read his older twitter and instagram comments. they've been getting attacked for staying silent

Just because this isn't racist doesn't mean it's not extremely insensitive, ill-timed (people are literally firing assault rifles into BLM crowds!!!!!), and disrespectful to a serious issue.

Your problem seems to step from the belief that this isn't a serious issue.

Do better.

As a proud black man of course I think it's a serious issue :selena:

But it's just simply ridiculous

what is a single tweet from a band going to do? what's it going to change? nothing. nothing unless everyone votes for the right people in November and actually try to make a difference

First of all  thinking that either Biden or Trump will change anythign is delusional. Not even Obama gave one f*ck when he was president. Second of all, he could have just kept his mouth shut instead of making fun of it.

A tweet mocking his fans who are asking him to speak up about BLM doesn't do anything to help the issue either, but he did it anyway.

Yeah, even if he felt it wasn't his place to speak about BLM or he didn't feel comfortable or whatever, that's one thing. But to then turn it into some joke? Absolutely unnecessary and so distasteful. If you don't have anything productive or supportive to say the LEAST you can do is not make a mockery of things

the civil unrest revolving BLM does not compare to Obama's presidency the way it does today. Clearly its now a MAJOR issue, which I think is because of the riots and looting. It was almost a necessary evil for people to actually wake up about this issue. now everyones woke

It's not your place to tell people what hurts them and what doesn't..? I was personally very hurt that Gaga chose to ignore the Beirut explosion when her support could have made a big difference since we desperately need any donation we can get. So I understand where they are coming from.

Yet despite that both candidates have made racist comments recently. So much for waking up.

I half agree with u. There's a lot of exxagerations and emphasis on the wrong things sometimes imo and celebrities I think almost need a gigantic bible manual to navigate expectations these days on what they have to say and when and to not get dragged or cancelled etc it's rediculous

But like I said earlier, this is still rude and insensitive to post especially in a time like this. Best would be to just not say nothing at all if they feel they feel so strongly they shouldn't "have to" use their platform for anything specific. But to go and tweet a joke like this just digs themselves a hole cuz let's be honest this comes across really bad :toofunny:

This is one of the few times I'm not inclined to defend the celebrity in question at all cuz I don't think any of the criticism is being excessive. The tweet kind is poor taste especially with the timing :enigma:
