RenegAde 18,783
911 and fun tonight are the darkest and deepest songs on chromatica All the songs on chromatica are including fun tonight and 911 are centered around finding ones self and emerging from the darkness and self acceptance.these themes are generally inspirational, happy and joyful .nontheless these two tracks succeed in a confounding way to express the same message in a very interesting manner . First off ,on the surface level these songs are happy songs!, their energetic chorus and catchy hook paint a picture of bliss and respite to the ordinary eye. But on a deeper analysis you can really see that this songs are tragic .it gives me the impression that gaga trys to convince herself that she is okay by singing this sad lyrics in a happy way . Lets dissect some of the lyrics Fun tonight may sound like a basic pop song about a love interest to some but it has a very deep meaning to me. She says in the pre chorus.... -im feeling the way that im feeling, im feeling with you -i stare at the girl in the mirror she talks to me too. ... right here we can establish that gaga in indeed refering to herself and not a love interest . She goes on to say -yeah i can see it in your face you dont think i pull my weight , maybe its time for us to say good bye cause .... i strongly feel like she is hinting at the suicidal thoughts she had when she says "maybe its its time for us to say good bye " and then she goes stay -im feeling the way that im feeling im feeling with you .which to me means that she agrees with whatever the person she see's in the mirror is saying which is probably her self doubt ,self loath and second guessing herself. Then she says "im not having fun tonight " and proceeds to chant that melodious chorus in a bid to distract everyone around her from the conversation she is having with herself. Guys i know fun tonight has some very commercial aspects in its production buts its pains me to see many users calling it a basic pop song when its far deeper than that . I get in my feels everytime i listen to it. Lets move on to 911 In fun tonight gaga uses happy sounds to distract us from the pain but she uses and alternative measure in 911 This song (911)sonically sounds so distasteful, brash and off putting . But in the right frame of mind it certainly has this borderline mystic quality to it . I even dare to say it is hypnotic . Its like she hypnotizing you to distract you from the pain that is embedded in the lyrics and trap you in the steampunk world the production depicts. It is usually the hardest song for non fans to get into and that is for reason. Only we understand her pain right off the bat cause we can identify with her and it takes non fans a while to welcome the message. You cant enjoy 911 without getting the message behind it. Sorry if this got too baseless , i just had to share how i feel about this songs .do you agree?
crybrowz 3,241
IMO 911 and Replay are the darkest songs. I see Fun Tonight as more "sad" rather than "dark" if that makes sense. Where as Replay sonically and lyrically gets quite heavy, pertaining to subjects like rape and PTSD. But I do agree with the points you made!
Noir 16,756
Not Replay????

Brecht 7
To me Fun Tonight is clearly about not wanting to be Lady Gaga anymore. It's a conversation between Stefani and Gaga. i don't think it's about suicide.
SLAG 7
I'd say Replay & 1000 Doves.
GagaSine 7,464
I love 911 and I don’t understand the hate. I think it’s awesome that she took a risk and made a kind of crazier electro pop song about taking your meds. It is not the strongest song ever but it is still very enjoyable imo. Fun Tonight is the kind of pop song I rarely enjoy on the other hand, personally I don’t like her vocals or the lyrics/theme. I like that it has a clever little twist in that the song is called Fun Tonight but it‘s a song about not having fun at all, struggling to feel good even but the song is just meh to me. I don‘t hate it or skip it but it‘s among my least fave songs on Chromatica.

Stephen 30,420
I've seen so many different interpretations of Fun Tonight. I think it's interesting so many people are interpreting it differently. I was in an emotionally abusive relationship and I feel that's what she's singing about. "I stare at the girl in the mirror she talks to me too." That lyrics resonates with me because there was a literal moment during my relationship where I felt so degraded, trapped and unhappy and I literally looked in the mirror and asked myself wtf am I doing here? This song makes me cry I saw someone on Twitter with Fibro say it resonates with her in a different way, that she believes the song is about Gaga's battle with Fibro and how the pain flare ups can ruin your life. "This moment's hijacked my plans." etc. 10 minutes ago, Brecht said: To me Fun Tonight is clearly about not wanting to be Lady Gaga anymore.
