Lighter 15,376
To be honest, I think it was due to Gaga’s lack of performance and appearance. She did not prepare anything nor walked the carpet. So they dropped her because she wouldn’t give them any rating anyway. So they went for the safest option for a sweep, Adele. look at the standing ovation from the grammys president during the nominations night my theory is that he/they were pissed Gaga did not prepare anything for the actual show
Ryusei 60,889
No, it's because Adele was THE star of 2011/2012/2013 and appealed to every age group and even non-pop fans (and voters in this case I guess) the grammys are not the VMAs otherwise no non-pop album would ever win AOTY. Red 97,489
That's not how the Grammys work, if she didn't perform it's because they didn't offer a performance, why would they boycott her for something that was their fault? If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.
Lorde Von Kok 4
THAT performance But yeah, Adele definitly deserved. Lady Gaga was probably too much far out there for the hetero-white-males judges. What is done in the dark shall one day come to light.
HookerDotGov 532
The Grammy's do not work like that. This is a voting body made up of music professionals. Lady Gaga's star power was already waning at this point, while Adele was arguably at her peak. Performing and red carpet decisions come way after nominations of which Lady Gaga only nabbed three that year for Born This Way. Adele was nominated for six, double that of Gaga, and swept. I'm not sure anyone thought Gaga would beat Adele at any of the three categories they were nominated together in. Adele just had a powerhouse album. 21 was a massive seller and had incredible longevity. She had multiple number one singles on the album. Born this Way didn't have the longevity on the album or singles charts. If you really look at how the singles from Born this Way charted (longevity-wise) it is shocking and kind-of disappointing. Anderson123 37,518
Ma’am the Grammys are not the Nickelodeon or Teen Choice Awards.
flyaway 15,350
Adele won because her music is safe and accessible to everyone. Born This Way was way more defiant and in your face.

Thomas P 18,479
As successful as the BTW era is, it wasnt even a quarter as successful and acclaimed as 21. I’m almost positive everyone went into the night knowing Adele was sweeping. I don’t see any word in which she wouldn’t . Also, if she didn’t perform I have a feeling it was because they didn’t offer her a performance slot (that’s probably why she didn’t walk the carpet either). I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.
Guest
The fact that an album as flawless as BTW didn't get a Grammy is shocking, I'll never forgive her management for what they did during that era. I think thats why Gaga become so tired/ill the year afterwards due to being overworked.

BlondeQueenOfGGD 25,454
Born This Way was the album of the year, just because it didn’t sell as much as 21 doesn’t mean it wasn’t AOTY. Born This Way was a movement
