If any of you are not black then your opinion is invalid, mine included.

With that being said, what in the hell possessed Adele to go with that hairstyle? I don’t know the history behind it so forgive me if I get it wrong, but as far as I know it is a traditionally African/Black hairstyle. Khloe Kardashian’s raggedy appropriating ass got dragged for doing it a few years back.

And back to what I first said, if any of you are not black keep it cute. We don’t tell people what they can and cannot be offended about. Imagine if straights told us we’re thirsty because we call out celebrities who use LGBTQ representation for clout. Let’s not.

Her being British might be the issue here but it's not like her mother was a duchess :laughga: She probably grew up with many POCs including Jamaicans in London so I get it. Woke twitter (not necessarily Jamaican twitter) will tear her to shreds tho. I don't know if she's not cancelled when she said Lemonade impacted her so much then she shouldn't be cancelled for this too. You don't always have to be x to appreciate x. That being said, if she was one of those white girls that copied the looks of POCs from a point of extreme privilege (*cough* Kylie Jenner *cough*) then I'd raise eyebrows.

N E ways its not up to me to discuss this cuz apparently US law considers me a caucasian :poot:

Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

I had to read the title again to be sure this was Adele... I mean, she looks EXACTLY like Katy Perry (which is a good thing, both are very beautiful).

Regarding the criticism: are people really complaining a hairstyle? This cultural appropriation argument may be valid at times, but now it doesn’t seem so. I’ve seen plenty of women of all ethnicities use hairdos like this one on the streets. It’s not like she’s exploiting another culture for money or anything. She’s just trying out a new look and didn’t claim to support Jamaica or whatever other country where people use this (it’s a very common hairstyle here in Brazil, too).

Besides, the whole cultural appropriation debate seems like such a first world thing. I mean, don’t you guys have more important things to discuss? It’s always been the case that a culture sees other cultures through its own lenses and turns them into stereotypes or selects typical traits for them. Every culture does that. It’s no big deal, as long as it doesn’t lead to segregation and discrimination - which imitating a certain hairstyle certainly does NOT do.

On top of that: how do people intend to keep their culture alive and breathing if nobody else can use it? Cultures mingle since time immemorial. I’m aware using another culture for personal advantage may be wrong, but everything is blown way out of proportion in social media, such as in this Adele case. This is all so irrational :saladga:

Ok rant over

TLDR: she looks fab :vegas:

The problem with the culture appropiation narrative is that it doesn't allow the majority to enjoy and give visibility to the minority culture. If we continue this way, many of these cultures will disappear at a faster pace. We should actually celebrate them.

First of all black is a race (or more like a skin tone), not a culture. And second, not only are caribbean and african heritages different, they also have different cultures from one country to another (Africa is actually a huge diverse continent not just a country). Many people who have been living in america for generations think they have the right to speak in behalf of people who actually know and breathe their culture. So who actually gave them the right to trash people who have done more for their "heritage" than themselves? chile

Literally 99% of comments from Jamaicans on Instagram are praising and loving this look. It’s always white SJWs that are outraged on others behalf. I think the look is cringe, but then again I am proud of her health journey and if she wants to show off her body and celebrate a certain culture, then you go girl!

I feel like context is important here.

She's wearing them for the Notting Hill Carnival which started out as a celebration to expose londoners to the cultures around them, to me this seems more like appreciation not appropriation.

Adele is being accused of cultural appropriation for a new look she sported on Instagram Sunday. The hairstyle drew criticism on social media. people are calling her "racist".

One accused her of normalising “cultural appropriation” on a “massive platform:

"it’s the appropriation of a hairstyle which does not belong to white people. It is not yours to wear.”

:triggered:

I just can't find logic here and what you think? do you think it's "cultural appropriation" and she is "racist?"

I mean its an ago old debate at this point and tbh, only people who belong to that culture really have a say.
