Re-Launch KP5

Challenge: Katy Perry's fifth LP has dropped and has potential, but arguably suffered a poor roll-out. Re-Launch KP5 using released songs and visuals of this era.

Not the End of the World the fifth LP by Katy Perry

Themes: Resilience, happiness, and finding one's inner peace.

Visuals: 1980s graphic aesthetics, using geometric patterns and soft pastels.

Singles:

Lead, Never Really Over

Second, Daisies

Promotional, Harley's in Hawaii

Third, Tucked

Fourth, Only Love

Tracklist:

01. Never Really Over

02. Cry About It Later

03. Teary Eyes

04. Harley's in Hawaii

05. Daisies

06. Resilient

07. Not the End of the World

08. Champagne Problems

09. Tucked

10. Small Talk

11. Only Love

12. What Makes a Woman

13. Never Worn White

Consensus: I actually think the album is solid, but is held back by the title track and unfitting visual aesthetic. A slightly revised track list, removing the original title track (Smile), creates a more cohesive album even with fan-edition bonus tracks Small Talk and Never Worn White making the cut. While Harley's in Hawaii sounds a little different from the rest of the album, it works wedged between Teary Eyes and Daisies (even providing a slight buffer between the dance-track and acoustic-pop track). Better, more fitting single roll-outs and enhanced 80s-inspired visual aesthetics help further the cohesiveness of the new tracklisting. Further, Not the End of the World as a title track fits her desired themes for this era without sacrificing the visuals and sound she has curated here.

Perhaps this isn't the perfect change, but I'm interested in seeing how others would attempt to better this era and roll-out.

If it were up to me I wouldn't have released anything in 2019. Then announce Never Really Over as the lead single in May 2020.

If she ditched the title track and had a better single roll out (like actually promoting NRO and HIH and had less promo singles and more official singles it would have been a much bigger release I think. The album itself is AMAZING

Even a reworked release strategy isn't enough to make an album great or successful...

Frankly, the first 3 tracks are incredible and I was ready to name it the most misunderstood album of all time. But then, I listened to the rest and I have to say it's really mostly forgettable... She should have sat on it a bit longer, but you do you Katy.

I can't believe NRO is track 1. That's like The Cure being track 1 on Chromatica.

I agree the release strategy was really weird, but NRO is by far the best track on the album so I'm glad it's featured.
