I mean adele's 25 had a HUGE impact and everyone talked about it constantly, I only heard about folklore the day it got released and never heard anyone mention it (besides taylor swift and pop music fans of course)

This is Taylor’s eighth album, it’s a change from pop to folk inspired, she has been building a fanbase for more than a decade, she’s only 30, Grammy bait album, surprise released during a pandemic. I mean, it’s not really a surprise that Folklore is being more successful than Lover and Reputation if you ask me. I’ve always wanted to hear Taylor do a more serious album like Adele’s 21 and 25 and this is close to that, it has the chance to attract people who are not really fans of her pop songs while still keeping the support of her fanbase.

I listen to this album for hours on repeat everynight while working. I love it very much, never a fan of her album as a whole. It's so calming and helps me concentrate. Even the bonus track The Lake is so so good.
