Stupid Love Is Great... Got Ruined By Perception

When Stupid Love first came out most fans loved it but then soon after everyone was like "meh". I don't think it's just because we were thirsty for new content

I think was happened is that #1 it's chart performance was mediocre... And #2 it's video visuals were underwealming, the video felt cheap. #3 that single era burned out so fast with no tv performances and promo and virus

Then when Rain On Me, a chart topper slaying with a much better video cake out SL felt so inferior and mediocre by comparison and so now it has like a stain on it of just being underwealming in general

But I find that now listening to it again ignoring the music video and not comparing it to ROM or that fact that it started the era in an underwealming way because virus caused sudden hiatus...

It's actually a frekin awsome catchy bop. I think the way the single era happened (plus a meh music video) kinda stained people's perception of the song but if u listen to it now for what it is it's great and I think the song is underrated by the fan base now!!!!

I like the video much more than the one for ROM. Idk how some of y’all don’t see a ‘concept’ or storyline but ROM is just different shots merged together almost like a commercial :awkney:

I personally love the video. The retro, happiness and campiness of it.

Not all videos need to be 20 minutes long with a deep and meaningful story when the song is fun.

The song is a bop.

It's not the story or the length. ROM is also short and not a movie video either

SL just felt cheap to me. Cheap green screen CGI that doesn't look real and cheap clothing props that look like the material was bought at the dollar store

That's my issue with the SL video. It wasn't good quality to me at all. ROM was miles better

I agree that obviously ROM is waaaay better

That's fine. Like ppl can enjoy it for what it is

I'm saying a lot of us that didn't feel it was probably for that reason. At least for me its how I felt. Felt very low budget and cheap

If the graphics were a little better and their clothing props looked more legitimate it wouldn't feel so cringey to me

Stupid Love music video could’ve been better with a few more sequences in the music video, but other than that it is a good song. I also think that the time between the announcement and release could have been much longer to heighten the anticipation as soon as the leaks started happening.

Sister

I only can't like it because of the word "stupid", if she used another word, I would probably love it. So, video and song fell flat with me.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

I love Stupid Love as a song!

As far as the video, I just wish there were more non-choreography shots. Rain On Me is dance heavy too, but it has some great close-up vignettes

The charting wasn’t mediocre. It peaked at no. 5 which is pretty amazing for a song like Stupid Love. This is Gaga we’re talking about. She can make fun radio songs and an example of that is the unreleased Nothing on but the Radio which i think is lightyears better than SL and it’s only a demo.

stupid love is one of my fav gaga songs. i like the song way better than rom. i get happy and energized when i listen to it

regarding the video,  to me it’s obvious they went retro, hence the cheapness of it. we all know gaga has the budget, so money wasn’t the issue for sure. i think the problem is they didn’t go FULL ON retro, they kind of went midway (maybe interscope didn’t let them) and this to some may have come across as cheap instead.

I think the reason why people hated Stupid Love was really because the lyrical content was not as deep as some would have thought. She'd just come back from A Star Is Born, been 3.5 years since Perfect Illusion was released... and all she had to say was "I want your Stupid Love". It was quite a shock for some people.

It also didn't help that it was revealed Max Martin had a hand in this song. Fans, and others, then ran with the idea that Stupid Love was basic and generic.

Stupid Love isn't basic or generic, its a fun song with no real deeper meaning. The production is ace, and immediately makes you want to bop. But some Gaga fans can only enjoy songs that are super deep and complex... and they can't look past that in order to just like the music.

The video made it worse because it was shot on an iPhone. If it was professionally done, fans would like it better.

We go through this every era. People didn't like Applause when it first came out. Same with Perfect Illusion. Same with Stupid Love. She never does what people expect or want, and its people's arrogance that lead to people hating a song just because she isn't talking about some deeper issue

End Racism Now
