Don't get me wrong, it's great that she's not putting pressure on herself to be at #1 anymore but let's be real, would she really be saying this if Witness had been another huge success? It's just funny how artists claim that having hits doesn't matter to them anymore after they go through a career nosedive. I just wish they were a bit more honest about why they changed their outlook because we've heard this same story with the same catchphrases across the board. If she's in a place where she can be truly happy with being a smaller artist, great, but I still have trouble believing that someone who achieved 9 #1's in 6 years could possibly be ok with the way things are going now. It was just 5 years ago that she was the highest paid woman in music and posing in a money suit on the cover of Forbes, saying how proud she was to be on the cover and inspiring other women to be the boss. That passion can't just have gone away overnight because of one lacklustre album. By all means, change your outlook out of realism but be honest about it.

She's been very explicit about witness flopping and having a massive impact on her health which made her re-evaulate. I mean you can't get anymore honest than that?

Change in circumstances are usually the reason for a turn-around in personal outlook on things, though. Everyone thinks #1's matter when they're currently achieving them. When the hits stop, you really want me to believe they drive for success just vanishes with them? This is the woman who was close to tears when E.T. wasn't performing well on the UK charts just after release (even though it ended up peaking in the top 5). I don't think caring that much about the charts just goes away. I think she's still in the process of talking herself into being ok with her new set of circumstances. In her own words, she says it wasn't until Witness that she realised that you can't hit the bullseye every time. Very timely turn-around of outlook, is what I'm saying.

She went through breakdown then changed her priorities in life. She became more mature and now is expecting a baby. She is not the same Katy that she was few years ago. When you get older maybe you will understand it.

Why are you so obsessed with how Katy says things, or pretty much ANYTHING she does? It’s like you have some special notifications for when a Katy thread is made.

This. I don't know why some of y'all need to be shady towards Katy. She's clearly in a good mood lately and I'm happy for her.

That happened 10 years ago, I don't think her mind changed from nowhere. Witness seemed to be very eye-opening to her. She probably realised she doesn't need to be in that mindset anymore because she will be just ok by doing what she loves. I'm sure a lot of artists fear the day their songs will no longer be the biggest ones because fame goes away as quickly as it comes. But maybe she saw that while she is not the biggest, she ain't going nowhere. She went through all that and she is still here making music. So what's the point in worrying that much?

Good for her. Happy she’s comfortable with where she is and humble about it. I hope her label gives the soon to be new mum all the support she needs, and doesn’t force her to do anything too soon.

She fascinates me, just like how she does to a lot of GGD. If a thread comes up, if it interests me, I have every right to comment, it's not something that needs to be pointed out.

My point is that it's very fitting that she stopped caring about hits when she stopped getting them. No one ever stops caring about hits when they're rolling in. Change in circumstances forced her to change her outlook. I just wish more artists would be upfront and say: "Look, everyone knows I'm not getting #1's anymore, so I had to get realistic and just stop hoping for them and just make music that my fans will love and be happy with that." But they don't seem to want to reference the fact that the hits stopped, they just make vague references to how they're more chilled and authentic now, we've heard all this before. I don't believe they can all be happy with their new demoted positions that quickly.

I'm already 30, so I think I've grown up. I'm just saying that we all know what caused this change in outlook, may as well outright address it.

I get the reasoning, I just think a lot of artists have too much pride to explicitly say "I know I'm not a hit-maker anymore, so I had to wise up and just focus on creating great art. Yeah, I'm disappointed that the hits have dried up but that's life and it could be worse." It would just be so refreshing to hear an artist just be real like that.

You're 35 and you're upset because people are making Katy Perry threads, I think you're the one who should be ashamed.

I kinda think the same too. She was promoting Daisies nearly every week during its release and claimed this album was “70% Teenage Dream and 30% PRISM.” I understand giving fans hype and performances but I’m sure they hoped something off the album would be a hit.

This is the first Katy era I haven’t been hyped about. NRO, Small Talk, and Harleys In Hawaii >>>>

Yeah, you don't do that level of promo if you're not looking for a hit. She could totally have followed more trends if she'd wanted but likely knows they would've been called out for blatant trend-hopping and wouldn't have suited her. Yes, she wouldn't have said the album was just like her 2 biggest albums if she weren't looking for hits. Hats off to Capitol for going ahead with the release, however. So many labels wouldn't have released an album whose lead single only just cracked the top 40.

I'm still hyped to find out what she could put out after all she's been through and if it will rely on old formulas or do something new. While I'm not her biggest fan by any means, she has quite a few songs I really like and even her bad stuff always keeps me entertained and I'm never bored with what she puts out. Agreed, these droplet singles were much better than the actual leading singles (though Small Talk was the one exception I didn't like) and I thought NWW was a great mature direction for her. I even liked her Con Calma remix. The way she's talking, she may even be working on another album very soon, once this era is properly over, so new stuff may be here in another 2 years from now or so.
