Noir 16,947
Stupid Love and 1000 Doves have the laziest lyrics on the record for me. Replay and 911 have the best lyrics (especially the verses).

Cerny 4,270
Agreed. I would also like to add that more than a third of the tracks (Deluxe Version) end with Gaga vocalising their respective title one last time: Rain. On. Me, I’m a free woman, oh-oh, I’m not having fun tonight, Sour Candy, R-replay eh-eh, Babylon, Would you still love me right? And that’s dull and gives one the impression that the creatives behind it ran out of fuel, and the producers were not ingenious or expressive enough to adorn the lack of attention proposed by the songwriters, and instead made it more evident with their insufficient contributions with no edge. Many artists end their songs like that, and Gaga herself has done that a lot in the past, but they usually end them with a fade or a layered repetition of words and instrumentation, sometimes making the songs reach climax as they’re ending (see Born This Way, an album where she also brings some tracks to an end by singing their title) which graces the listener with a conclusive, cathartic, and satisfying feeling, rather than the abrupt feeling that the aforementioned tracks on Chromatica force out. That’s why some of you can’t stop replaying the songs.

Again - she could write some new line I actually love this, it makes those verses feel more poetic. I’m always a fan of that style of repeating the first line as the last line, whether it’s at the start and end of a verse or a song as a whole. It always makes that lyric feel more impactful, but that’s just me. See The Best In Everyone
FentyGa 14,340
the only one i really disagree with is SFA, i think all the lyrics fit really well that said, expanding upon your post, i feel like throughout a lot of the album, gaga kinda goes for the obvious lyric/rhyme/simple metaphor there’s not much complexity to the lyrics (some, but not much) obv i’m not expecting hugely complex lyrics from gaga, but it is probably the album’s biggest flaw
HeavyMetalLover 16
4 hours ago, ARTGOD said: Not really. There’s no such thing as objective analysis when it comes to art. The best we can do is try to rationalize and explain why we feel what we feel, which is what I tried to do with my post. The album has grown on me. I really didn’t like it at first, now I do. Still, there are so many things about it I think are vastly inferior to her previous work, the lyrics being one of them. I think the lyrics do their job, but they rarely go beyond just getting across the general idea of the emotions she’s trying to convey. I think her previous albums have much more original, thought provoking and emotionally complex lyrics. False. Art and music can be experienced both subjectively and objectively. Both are valid. It doesn't come naturally necessarily, but it's good to practice experiencing art both ways, imo. I hear you - and that is fair. I don't think it's as brilliant as some of her other work, but I still think it holds its own as an incredible album. The lyrics are fine to me and I never really thought they were lacking - let alone "lazy." I think the delivery is just as important, and they really are expressed beautifully when you hear them on the album. I agree - the lyrics on some of her other albums are intentionally more complex and different in style. 4 hours ago, ApplauseftAdele said: The point of GUY and much of ARTPOP is to be campy and silly though ... like Venus, Donatella etc all have cringeworthy but it makes sense contextually. Same with GUY, it’s not like Katy Perry’s lyrics where she tries to seem serious but it ends up being cringe, it’s supposed to be cringe. For Chromatica, she could have definitely stepped out of her comfort zone and brought the camp or metaphors or better lyrics. Maybe GUY was a bad example but what about Marry The Night? Or Bloody Mary, Judas, and many songs on Born This Way that create thematic parallels between Christianity and the actual meaning of the song? I will say that SFA and Babylon are great songs lyrically, and Alice too, but some of the lyrics are borderline lazy. Also, since you clearly have more mature taste, may I ask you to provide examples of the “timeless” lyrics on Chromatica that we will be praising in 5 years? Sure, I think the stylistic choices in ARTPOP work great for that album. I really like that album, and my main issue is with some of the production, if anything. I love campy and fun lyrics. I love that album for what it is. I could see that maybe she could have pushed he writing, but I don't know that it was necessary. I appreciate the more straightforward approach, and think it's really effective when you hear it. I still don't think it's valid to call the lyrics lazy, even borderline, and is actually quite rude. Just because she's not using a ton of metaphors and symbolism doesn't mean these lyrics are lazy whatsoever, but that the approach to writing is different. Her voice here is different. These lyrics are direct and visceral to me and I can appreciate them for what they are. Wow thanks, I pride myself in my refined palate. I can't speak for what you or anyone else may or may not like in 5 years. But I really love the entire album, with Sour Candy being an exception when I first heard it. But honestly it's all great and far from what I would consider "lazy." I would say almost all of the album is exceptional lyrically - I find them to be poetic, honest, and beautiful. It's hard to choose just a few, but Enigma, Replay, 911, 1000 Doves are all great lyrically. Maybe you just need some more time with them. i don't remember ARTPOP
