For me it's not the repetition but the lyrics themselves

Free Woman, Fun tonight and 1000 Doves have incredibly generic and lazy lyrics to me

That could be argued for Stupid Love also but as it sounds very 80s pop it kinda fits that "person in love" vibe

Kind regards

Nah repetition isn't the issue.

Some of the lyrics are lazy and so unlike Gaga.

It's fine, I love the album, but many of the songs just don't have the Gaga DNA that helped me fall in love with her. Sour Lady, Fun Tonight, 1000 Doves, Plastic Doll and more could have been sung by any other artist.

Head Empty

"Don't call me Gaga"
"I'll still be Bloody Mary"
"Introducing Mary Jane Holland"
"Call me Joanne"

and now "My name isn't Alice"

Like b*tch don't be lazy, quit teasing and just give us your real name already :bear:

Bottom

The whole chorus of 911 is boring and lazy as hell, if she wanted to explore the whole i am my worst enemy theme it could have been written a lot smarter

I would call it lazy songwriting because it's not just the lyrics that are lazy, but also the song structures. Some songs sound like she couldn't think of what to do so leave it as is and let Bloodpop's production cover for her.

CHROMATICA 101 for those bad at math

What do you think the sine curve is? A deconstructed representation of the circle. GAGA wrote these lyrics to feel empowered by the sweeping nature of sound. Hence, the patterns convey messages that need to be repeated. This is why the sentences have an elliptical shape.

This is actually genius. Combining geometry with acoustics with lingustics and psychology. Try harder to comprehend.

At the beginning I would like to say that Chromartica is my fav album (as a whole) and has AMAZING lyrics. But I think that some part of a lyrics were written in a lazy way.

#1 Sour Candy
After 2nd chorus BP sing the same lines like at the beginning. They could write something different for them to sing. :poot:
"I'm sour candy, so sweet then I get a little angry, yeah
Sour candy, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm super psycho, make you crazy when I turn the lights low
Sour candy, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah"

#2 Free Woman

She sings "I walk the downtown, hear my sound" twice and it's wierd (WHERE IS Watch, watch me now, electric, devotion :bear:

#3 Sine From Above
She sings "When I was young, I prayed for lightning" twice. Again - she could write some new line :selena:

Why does she sing only 1 verse in "Alice" :bradley:

Completely agreed on SC, however on SFA “When I was young, I prayed for lightening” bookending the first verse reminds me of the structure of a poetic stanza, so I excuse it tbh

We have forgotten our public MANNERS

The only ugly line is THAT one in Free Woman :bear:

I'm not nothing unless I know I can :awkney:

Wait... is it me or it means “I'm nothing if I know I can”? :air:

I love that free woman line, I think free woman gives the most imagery from it's lyrics and that line is part of it

Y'all I literally reactivated this account to reply to this because it's frustrated me so much reading through this thread. Do any of you understand how POP MUSIC and hooks work? Do you realize that repetition is a motif characteristic to pop music and is used to create hooks or "earworms" and that words are used for their sonic/melodic qualities rather than their meaning which in turn, creates meaning in pop as a sort of collage/pastiche?? Has everyone forgotten that Gaga's greatest skill as a songwriter is her ability to craft immaculate POP hooks and lyrics which are both effective as POP mechanism and conceptual points of departure?? I mean this bitch made "rah rah ah ah ah" sound like Shakespeare and made fake German the new German. All of your examples are examples of excellent pop crafting. If you want sonnets for lyrics and storytelling then listen to folklore.

For those still grappling with Chromatica and who have decided that the album is "dated", "lazy" or sounds "poorly produced because all the songs are the same" please refer to the post above for the rest of your life thank you Xx
