The current phase of electro-pop with funk and R&B influences came around technically from Calvin Harris in 2017 or whenever he releases his last album again and the whole 1980s dance and electronic pop sounds have been around since Gaga revived them in her early days, she’s also credited for reintroducing Four On The Floor to mainstream pop music for the first time in decades too. Also to the OP, can we not use this lowkey racist phrasing in the poll.
RodeckDanny 2,450
The Weeknd and Dua are more funk influenced, than disco. And honestly it's SUCH good pop. I love Charlie Puth, the New Dua, The Weeknd, Enigma, MIdnight Sky... Listen to my debut pop single 'Want You Bad'! (link on Insta)

I'd literally heard no disco beats on the radio until they put out Get Lucky: Ever since then, so many artists have experimented with disco. It stopped very briefly around 2016 but is coming back again. However, I see a lot of new music getting labelled disco that's clearly not. Having a mild influence is not the same as being full force into a genre.
Guest
Well, as of 2019 to now Dua defiantly re-started the trend. For FN she worked with Stuart Price who co-produced COADF with Madonna, i think for the album they wanted to recreate the hype/success however you just can't recreate that flawless album. BABYL0N 3,157
Definitely Abel, since 2015 starting with Can‘t Feel My Face and delivering many other 80‘s and disco inspired songs since then Dua‘s debut album was full of tropical house and dance tracks

Killa 17,474
Last dicoish hit single that comes to mind was cake by the ocean The 80s had an internet resurgence of interest via youtube and synthwave. And the last 3 years these recomendations seem to reach a bigger audience to the point which it matters. There were many indie young bands doing 70s funky and disco sounding music plus a lot of 80s into dream pop etc, for at least some 7 years now. Like its not thhaaat new. I guess even the weekend had his last album mostly 80s. And ofc gaga was prob the first mainstream act to really hit on the whole hipster vintage movement and bring an 80s sound and aesthetic. I think the OP is a fan of pop music and doesn't mean to denigrate trap music or the POC artists who create music in that genre, but is celebrating the fact that catchy pop music is making a comeback and taking over the charts again. I dont even hate trap music. I just have had enough of it. Just like i had enough of tropical music in 2016 and had enough of edm in 2013 and enough of timbaland productions in 2008 and will have enough of this disco trend in 2 years @gagzus Banned 04/19/2020 - 04/19/2020
