I think when women have been in the media portrayed as sex objects in the male view, which was purely created by males in society, the whistling, the ****, the prostitutes, the needs and wants for big boobs tiny waist and big ass, the rapes, the portrayal of women on television and in the media, the sexism, all of that in the past has contributed to the need for now modern women to be portrayed as different and not necessarily constantly attached to sex, or homemaking skills or motherhood. Sex is natural, it's nothing to be ashamed of, but when it's constantly attached to women for centuries, it gets pretty damn tiring to see it again and again and again and again. We get it, women have beautiful bodies, and they are sexual beings, you're not gonna change the world by doing the same thing that males have already been doing for centuries to women. Change it up, create a story where a woman has no dates, no attachment to sex and no homemaking skills, no desire for motherhood, why not? Why don't we see asexual women more in the media. It's always the same story. I have no problem with women embracing their sexuality but this was a cheap shot to get number 1 spot and get talked about and also the reason why it's so talked about by radio hosts, or in the media etc is because it's borderline ****. I don't believe it's necessarily beneficial to women to again being represented in that way. To be honest, Im torn about it because at the end of the day it's two women embracing their sexuality but it's nothing groundbreaking or revolutional, it's tiring when I see it but that's personal. To be honest, Im torn about it because at the end of the day it's two women embracing their sexuality but it's nothing groundbreaking or revolutional, it's tiring when I see it but that's personal. as if men haven't always been sexual beings? it's the patriarchal/Christian worldview that's relegated women to being non-sexual beings. Men can be as sexual as they want, but you're basically saying that when women are sexual, they're objectifying themselves FOR the man – not because women themselves want sex. When a man wants sex, it's for his own pleasure, but we have a hard time imagining the same thing for women. And we do see PLENTY of "asexual" woman in music. In fact, that's what they've always been forced to be precisely because of what people in this thread are complaining about. When a woman "crosses a line" sexually, they become trashy, slutty, and lack self-respect. Yet nobody is EVER saying male rappers are too sexual, or that their music objectifies themselves and degrades their self worth. It's the same line of thinking that leads people to say, "Why does Taylor Swift only write about her exes? Doesn't she have something better to write about?" but never say the same thing about Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, etc. who do essentially the same thing. Sex is completely independent of the things you're mentioning like motherhood, homemaking, etc. They're not mutually exclusive. which is why WAP is great – it's two woman who take control of the sex, assuming the dominant role without apology.
