There's a lot of "toxic positivity" in the world, too: "It gets better" or "Stand up for your rights" or "change your thoughts, change your life" -- all these silly new-wave ways of avoiding reality. Like, why even embrace our species so many want a certain race or gender or sexuality eradicated. Not to mention the destruction of the planet; poverty; the rise of nationalism and so forth. Makes one question humanity's path to self-destruction rather than altruism. I guess I'm a bit of a pessimist with a tinge of optimism. Perhaps we can blast off to Venus or Chromatica on Volantis? Their family might be mature enough to not go out of their way to hurt gays, but they often won't bat an eye if their young family members are talking bad about gays or even Western women.
