Some people don't seem to understand this is possible. You don't have to post all this fake sympathy in order to react to someone's passing. Nobody here knew this man. The user I responded to had directly implied that anyone who didn't either sympathize or keep silent was inherently not a decent person. I disagreed. I think other emotional responses are valid, vocalized or not, and I don't think we have a right to make such judgments about those people because we all have different levels of distance from the issue and we all have different concepts of what is appropriate or inappropriate regarding death. Please don't get it twisted - I said that it's about being a decent person, and when people say hateful things, it's kind of hard for that to be considered decent behavior, and pretty ludicrous to defend. Explicit hatred and celebrating someone's death is not valid or really appropriate here. We should have standards of common decency. Call me judgmental if you want. You accused me of gaslighting because I disagreed with they some users expressed themselves. It's not a free for all just because we're talking about someone as repugnant as Trump. For someone who feels indifferently, you sure have a lot to say about this. i don't remember ARTPOP

For someone who feels indifferently, you sure have a lot to say about this. My point is that you don't get to define what an appropriate reaction is or isn't. None of us do. Do I think being vocally happy about Robert Trump's death is tasteful? No, I actually don't. But what I won't do is tell people how to act, when they are not actively harming anyone. Even if I think a YAAS reaction to this is distasteful, it is not actively harmful and it is definitely not my place to tell people to react in a way /I/ consider appropriate. I also brought up the fact that there are people whose reactions to this will be shaped by proximity to the issue. I mentioned that I know someone who has had a family member killed by this administration. I know what her reaction to these news are and they fall under what you would probably describe as hateful. But there is no way I could ever judge that reaction and crucify her because of it. Nor would I say she isn't a decent person, or call her an as*hole or anything of the sort. And, for the record, I feel quite indifferent towards Robert Trump's death, but I do have strong feelings about you and other people in this thread using respectability and claiming "common decency" to actively shame other people who have a different experience/viewpoint. xoxo Craig 55,649
How difficult is it for you gays to put your emotional/political views aside for a moment? Someone's death should not be something to kiki over. While Trump is a disgusting man, celebrating his BROTHER'S death is absolutely the lowest of the low. We ALL hate Trump (or at least I think we do), but don't take your emotions out on his brother who has passed away. With any luck, hopefully Trump will take Covid more seriously since its out of control in the US. End Racism Now
