Cameltoe Chariot 15,153
Imagine if someone came in here saying that Mi Pan meme from TikTok is racist because it's actually based on the honey nut cheerios jingle in russia not denying anyone is upset, not pretending jokes can be much more damaging than their original intent... but come on now. Sometimes people are just amused by sh*t on a very base level. Personally I didn't even know the song in the filter in question was indian, and the song was only funny because it rose in intensity which people used as part of the joke. (also, were a lot of racist jokes in the past deemed as “norms” in your demographic. ) That’s the difference. THANK YOU. White people don't get to decide what is and isn't offensive to a POC. Period. He is pretty much inconsequential. What's up for debate is the filter, where a person intentionally or in most cases unintentionally might be making fun of someone's culture that he/she might be unaware of. It's not that hard to comprehend. If it’s unintentional then I don’t think it can be labeled as racist. Ignorant most likely yes. But there are so many cultures in our world to know every single thing about every single one is impossible. When I first saw the video I thought it was some sort of wavy, face distortion filter and didn’t immediately see any connection to Indian culture. At the end of the day, everyone has varying degrees of what they find and don’t find offensive and it is their right to express their concerns. Wet Fire 7,494
I still don't understand why such a large number of white people are feeling entitled to give an opinion on how POC should feel about something

Which is exactly why I didn't really have a problem with it to begin with. It was more because of the other people in the thread telling us what we can find offensive or not according to their whims. When they basically shouldn't have any say in that matter. I'm not very good with Social Mediaᵀᴹ
Wet Fire 7,494
The filter is not destroying any culture. I totally agree. It's not a huge issue. But the way the majority is trying to dictate on how the minority should feel about something has turned this thread into a mess

CyanDante 6,072
It might be not something as big as climate change or eradication of hunger or poverty, but Indians who might have spent years and years of training to master the arts of Indian classical music or have probably spent significant amount of time from their lives behind its study, if they find offense in someone or something ridiculing their art form , then they have a right to call it out. And people who have no connection to it,can have any say in that matter, specially on telling us how to react.
