It's impossible for someone to work 1000X to 10,000X harder than an average person to make a Billion in a life time (or much more). There's only 24 hours in a day

I get what u mean as well. But even so the free market sucks at rewarding ppl proportionally to what they contribute to society. And the gap between the very top and regular people is absolutely insanely massive

 

There's also a lot of luck involved in whether u succeed or not... Also many billionaires are not even self made or hard workers some were lucky to inherit it

 

Listen I'm not a hardcore leftist. There's many policies I personally think Bernie is too agressive with and would backfire and do more harm than good

 

But I do understand why he says billionaires shouldn't exist. That much wealth gap to me is not justifiable

 

The system doesn't even tax capital which takes less work and effort to redeploy once your rich as it does actual labour

 

Upper middle class software programmers, engineers, doctors etc literally pay a higher tax rate than billionaires

Bernie who claims to be a Socialist voted for the biggest transfer of wealth in literally all human history (the stimulus bill). Bernie will only give you progressove policies after America turns into Brazil and everyone is poor. What he voted for will cement the wealth gap in America forever and he knows it. He did not even regotiate much or talked about how insane all this is.

What makes you think Brazil is the way it is because of progressive policies?

Universal healthcare, public colleges and some programs that gives barely enough money to buy food for less than half of the month for some really low income families are pretty much all progressive policies we have. The problem we discussing here is a problem Brazil have maybe more than the US. The tax system in Brazil is regressive af. Families who have as little as US$ 80 income, pay more than 50% in taxes every month, at the same time people at the top pay as little as 20% in taxes.

The majority of taxes in Brazil is attached to consumption, direct income taxes has way less participation on the tax system. There's no tax at profit, and almost none at speculation on the stock market. So I don't get your point saying progressive polices would get US closer to Brasil. Even more so, considering US economy is more of an technologic, patent driven one than a natural commodities one like Brazil. Brazil was heavily explored by European countries, and had for a long time sanctions on developing industries. 

Long story short, Brazil has a history of heavy exploration of the natural resources, had deals with UK to not develop any industrial activities til the 20th century, etc. Its a history of income inequality, total lack of social justice, idk why the hell would someone think its economy is like it is because of progressive policies.

Also, back in the 1970's the marginal tax rate was exceptionally high and it didn't stop rich people from making more money. In fact, it wasn't until Reagan who started this whole idea that you could give tax breaks to the richest people in the world and they would be so generous that they would invest in good paying jobs that would help everybody. 

 

Too bad they didn't realize rich people are greedy and will do anything to keep their wealth, continue to not pay their workers wages that keep with inflation, continue to lay off as many people as possible, reduce benefits as much as possible and claim that the reason people don't have money is because they're lazy and don't want to work 80 hours a week and work 2 jobs. 

 

What I find incredibly sad is that you can never back up your opinion with anything but more opinions. You should try using some facts to back up your claims. 

 

BTW I'm still waiting for you to answer whether or not you feel that americans should allow the government to violate their rights just so we can try to find illegal immigrants.

America is finding it’s dirt that was hidden for decades rising to the top. America is not that far worse than before, they just can’t hide it anymore. But if you can’t see the dirt, you can’t properly clean off, so maybe this is for the better.

I literally said in my comment that it will turn into Brazil because of none progressive policies like the corporate stimulus bill. I am a progressive (kinda) and support progressive policies.

Bezos literally made the most money in a single day ever during a pandemic, I love this bill! I don't think it'll happen and for sure prioritize military getting a massive decrease but I think the social impact will be helpful.

Thanks. Most ppl here don't think so because my views on economy are not quite as far left as most ppl on GGD but then they aren't centrist or conservative enough for the members on the other side so I'm not always on people's good books when I discuss this stuff

 

Come to think of it I think very very few on this site are where I am on the spectrum
