Truly a celebration of African Culture while retelling the Lion King. The visuals are top notch. I've rewatched it so many times already and still can't get enough. Film deserves all the praise it's getting + more. I agree. I was overwhelmed by the film all the way through it. Beautiful meaning, visuals, history. It's perfectly done. Her fans must be proud of the artist who she became, I would. the scars on my mind are on replay.
Flawless 2,234
I shouldn't be surprised but I was very disappointed reading this thread. As if this project was made to slay every chart metric, it's not commercial at all. Definetly a tribute to her african roots with a lot of love & empowerment. It's really amazing she's using her career to make art like these to people feel represented & seen somehow. I love everything about it. the scars on my mind are on replay. Mavis Gary 364
How many flop films is it going to take that pander to minorities and/or push agendas before the studios realise that this is not what the majority of audiences want or need?
DavieX 330
That's what happens when you ride the race baiting wave for your own profit. The title alone made me TRUMP 2020

If you can believe it, The Gift actually has an "impact" section on Wikipedia. Albums that did way more than that don't have impact sections. It was so cringey to read, saying how it's going to inspire Afrobeats to be woven into music in America and is what's going to be the next big thing. I don't know how that section is still up considering how badly it flopped. You can't even find sales for it - just the first week US sales of 54k and that's it. That's how you know how badly it flopped, when it can't even put up the most basic of international sales info. Making Beyonce look more successful than she is is a military grade operation. She had just won the public back with her self-titled, then she went a lot more niche with Lemonade, losing sales in the process and then she went right off the deep end with experimental stuff that was aimed purely at the black community. There's nothing wrong with a song or two and being niche can foster a really strong fanbase but making your niche be all about race is a very risky idea. Your music should be for all races, that's not something you want to divide people on. But whenever I bring this up, all people can respond with is "it's not black people's fault if whites feel uncomfortable." One, how would you like it if an artist flat-out made you feel like you weren't welcome on their album experience? Second, there are more races than black and white. Does no one care that Beyonce's alienating her Asian fans? There's a reason Beyonce hasn't toured in Asia since her Sasha Fierce days - because she's basically lost all her fans out there as her music became blatantly not made for them anymore. If any other artist hadn't toured an entire continent in an decade, most people would have questions about worldwide appeal but not Beyonce. She ironically won't even tour in Africa anymore, which is pretty bad. I'm honestly intrigued as to what her next solo album will be like as I don't know what she'll write about this time and its been so long and she's so niche now that I can't predict the sales she'll get for it. 10 minutes ago, Borislshere said: It's not ruining it tho? It's a tribute to Africa and the lion King. Which is exactly what the Broadway version of The Lion King is and that hasn't ruined anything considering it's super successful. Not that I've ever seen the stage version of Lion King but from what I can gather from what I've seen in clips, it's the exact same story, characters, everything. They even wear lion heads. Beyonce's re-telling is an attempt to make money off a vanity project by loosely tying it to a successful film, nothing more, that's why people saw right through it. Tell me this - if Beyonce loves African culture so much, why does she just refer to it like it's just one big culture instead of referring to the differences between each country? She presents like like a great bit monoculture, as ignorant as any uneducated white person. It's comments like this that actually came from black Africans. Check out the comments section of the official trailer. I was shocked at the like/dislike ratio. Look at the top-rated comment from a black African as well. I'm totally with them and I'm white and European. Their point is so good, saying that if someone made a movie where white people dressed up like the Greeks and called it Europe Is King, people would point out the obvious flaws with that, but when a black person mixes various African cultures together and calls it African culture, no one bats an eye. They also make a good point about how Africa stops having to be represented as a desert with animals or a war-torn impoverished land - people there do live normal lifes in cities too with all the same amenities Westerners do, why are they constantly being exoticified as if they're something completely different from anyone else on earth? The aesthetics may be stunning but they're always the same, always an over-dramatic depiction of what it means to be African, not much grounded in reality. She thinks she can do no wrong - and why would she? Everyone who's anyone fawns all over. Queen Bey this and that. It was only a matter of time where the GP grew tired of her being coronated as American royalty every time she sneezes. That said, I think she's incredibly talented.
